Jeffrey Williams has been charged with shooting two police officers outside Ferguson P.D.

March 15, 2015

Reuters is reporting,

A 20-year-old man was charged on Sunday with first-degree assault in last week’s shooting of two policemen during a protest rally in Ferguson, Missouri, a crime that shocked a city that has been devastated by months of racial strife.

The suspect, Jeffrey Williams, has admitted to firing the shots that wounded the officers early on Thursday, said St. Louis County Prosecuting Attorney Robert McCulloch.

The right wing is going crazy claiming that Williams was a protester, even though he allegedly fired from inside his car at a location that was nowhere near where the protesters were. In fact, they were not protesting. They were celebrating Chief Jackson’s resignation from the Ferguson Police Department.

Yet more evidence, as if we needed it, that the racist right wing hate machine doesn’t bother with evidence. They just keep on making stuff up.

Darren Wilson’s radio calls do not support a claim of self-defense

November 17, 2014

Monday, November 17, 2014

Good morning:

Officer Darren Wilson of the Ferguson Police Department shot and killed an unarmed Michael Brown on August 9, 2014 sometime between 12:02 pm, when he told dispatch, “Put me on Canfield with two. [an apparent reference to stopping Michael Brown and Dorian Johnson] And send me another car,” and 12:03 pm when someone posted a tweet about the shooting.

His radio calls do not support his claim of self-defense.

According to a timeline in the St.Louis Dispatch,

11:53 am

Police dispatcher reports a “stealing in progress” at the Ferguson Market.

11:53:19 am

Dispatcher reports that the suspect stole a box of Swisher cigars and describes him as a black male wearing a white T-shirt running toward QuikTrip.

11:57 pm

The dispatcher reports that the suspect is wearing a red Cardinals hat, a white T-shirt, yellow socks and khaki shorts, and is accompanied by another man.

12:00 pm

Wilson reports that he’s back in service from the sick-baby call. He then asks the officers searching for the thieves – units 25 and 22 – if they need him.

12:00:07 pm

An unidentified officer broadcasts that the suspects had disappeared.

12:02 pm

Wilson says, “21. Put me on Canfield with two. And send me another car.”

Sources have told the Post-Dispatch that Wilson has told authorities that before the radio call he had stopped to tell Brown and his friend, Dorian Johnson, 22, to quit walking down the middle of the street. They kept walking, and he then realized that Brown matched the description of the suspect in the stealing call.

12:02:41 pm

Unit 25 reports that he is about to arrive at Wilson’s location, saying he is “going out on Canfield” and accompanied by the sound of his racing engine.

12:02:48 pm

Unit 22 reports that he has arrived at the scene.

12:23 pm

Someone tweets about the shooting.

My Observations

1) The 911 caller reported a theft of a box of Swisher cigars, which is a misdemeanor shoplift, not a robbery.

2) Wilson’s statement to the dispatcher, “Put me on Canfield with two. And send me another car,” does not indicate why he stopped the two people. For example, he may have intended to issue them citations for jaywalking and he may have called for backup as a precaution because the two boys had disobeyed him. His post-shooting explanation (i.e., that he realized Brown matched the description of the suspect in the stealing call after they ignored his order to get out of the middle of the street) may or may not be true. I suspect he lied about that because he did not fill out an offense report explaining why he decided to stop them and the police chief publicly stated that Wilson did not know they were the two suspects.

3) Wilson shot and killed Brown sometime between 12:02 pm, when he asked for backup, and 12:03 pm, when someone tweeted about the shooting. I suspect it happened before 12:02:41, when the officer in vehicle 25 reported that he was going on Canfield and 12:02:48, when the officer in vehicle 22 reported that he had arrived at the scene and was out of his vehicle. Apparently, neither officer witnessed the shooting, so I am inferring that it happened before they arrived.

4) I am not convinced that Wilson suffered any injuries during his encounter with Brown. If so, they are not apparent in the videos from the police station.

5) I believe the most likely explanation for what happened is Wilson backed-up, stopped and pushed his door open intending to get out and confront the two boys. The door hit both boys and Brown pushed it back hitting Wilson in the head as he was attempting to get out. Wilson lost his temper and reached through the open window with his left hand grabbing and holding on to Brown’s arm as he drew his gun with his right hand and pointed it toward Brown. Brown attempted to prevent Wilson from shooting him but was unsuccessful as one of the two shots injured his right hand. This explanation is consistent with Dorian Johnson’s description of what happened and also consistent with the autopsy report and the presence of gunshot residue on Brown’s right hand.

6) Brown broke free from Wilson’s grip and ran away to avoid being shot a second time. Dorian Johnson also ran.

7) Wilson gave chase squeezing off shots at Brown.

8) Brown realized he was not going to get away, so he stopped, turned around and was raising his hands as he dropped to his knees to surrender.

9) Wilson kept shooting and finished him off as Brown was leaning forward looking at the ground as he dropped to his knees. This version is consistent with Brown’s injuries.

10) Brown’s body was about 100 feet from Wilson’s vehicle, which makes it extremely unlikely that he bull-rushed Wilson.

11) Finally, I do not believe a person who literally ran for his life after having been shot, would suddenly stop fleeing, turn around and bull-rush the shooter.

As I have said many times, there is probable cause to believe that Wilson intentionally shot and killed Brown in the heat of anger.

Wilson should be indicted and tried for murder.

Brown’s family and the people who live in Ferguson deserve no less.

Amnesty International documents human rights violations by Ferguson police

October 24, 2014

Friday, October 24, 2014

Good morning:

76 days ago Darren Wilson, a police officer with the Ferguson Police Department, shot and killed an unarmed 18-year-old Michael Brown who was running away from him following a tussle with Wilson at Wilson’s police vehicle that ended with Wilson shooting Brown in the arm. Six independent eyewitnesses to the shooting said he had stopped running away from Wilson, turned around and raised his hands in the universally understood signal of surrender. Instead of arresting him, which he has been trained to do, he executed him with his gun.

I believe Wilson should have been arrested, charged with murder and tried in a court of law.

Instead, he is a free man today and likely to remain so.

A grand jury is investigating the shooting, but an avalanche of selected leaks from unidentified officials beginning last Saturday and media reports spinning the information in a manner that is uniquely favorable to Wilson suggests that the grand jury is being manipulated into not indicting Wilson and the public is being groomed to accept that decision without complaint.

I believe the unidentified officials in the St.Louis County prosecutor’s office, under the direction of Bob McCulloch, and the Ferguson Police Department who are engaged in a conspiracy to literally ‘whitewash’ Darren Wilson’s criminal conduct by intentionally misleading and corrupting the grand jury investigation.

The people of Ferguson were and continue to be incensed by the failure of the police to arrest, charge and prosecute Wilson for murder.

Since the shooting, they have engaged in a series of mostly peaceful public protests.

Instead of respecting their constitutional rights to peaceful assembly and protest, the police responded wearing full military gear with tear gas, rubber bullets and mass arrests.

Amnesty International has released a 23-page report today documenting human rights abuses by the Ferguson Police Department. The report was compiled by Amnesty International observers who monitored the mostly peaceful demonstrations.

As awful and frustrating as matters are today, we are headed toward an uncertain future that could get much worse.

Please take a few minutes today to read this important document and tell us what you think in the comments below.

Governor Nixon should appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the #MikeBrown shooting in #Ferguson

August 22, 2014

Friday, August 22, 2014

Good morning:

For the following reasons, I believe Governor Nixon should appoint a special prosecutor to investigate the Mike Brown shooting in Ferguson, Missouri.

Given recent developments, we can conclude that there are now reasonable grounds to believe that the Ferguson Police Department is engaged in a conspiracy to tamper with evidence and obstruct justice in order to prevent the prosecution of Officer Darren Wilson for the crime of first degree murder.

Based on the accounts of multiple eyewitnesses to the shooting and the results of the independent autopsy conducted by Dr. baden and Professor Shawn Parcells, there are reasonable grounds to believe that the officer,

(1) pursued an unarmed Mike Brown, who was running away after an argument regarding walking in the street instead of on the sidewalk, and

(2) executed Mike Brown after he stopped, turned around and was surrendering to his authority.

We now know that the Ferguson Police Department has promoted two lies in an attempt to justify the shooting.

The first lie was that Mike Brown committed a strong-arm robbery to obtain Swisher Sweet cigarillos from a convenience store without paying for them. A portion of a store video showing Brown pushing a clerk was released by the department to support this claim. However, the store never reported a robbery, denies that a robbery occurred, and the remainder of the tape shows that he paid for the cigarillos.

The second lie advanced by the department was that Brown had punched the officer in the side of the face fracturing the orbital socket of the officer’s right eye while the officer was still seated in his vehicle.

My theory all along has been that the door hit Wilson in the face as he was attempting to get out. Vehicle doors are curved inward at the top and they have door stops so that they do not swing all the way open or closed, unless pushed.

I know from personal experience that if I park on an incline and do not open the door to the first stop, it will swing back toward the closed position and bump me in the head as I’m trying to get out.

I suspect the door hit Wilson in the head with a little help from Brown or Johnson after it hit them when Wilson opened it and attempted to get out. I doubt they applied anything more than defensive force to prevent being struck by the door.

If Mike Brown had punched Wilson, I would have expected to see some evidence of bruising or skinned knuckles to his hand, but Dr. Baden and Professor Parcells did not mention any injuries to his hands except for the deep bullet-graze to the palm of his right hand just below the thumb.
