Remember Todd Akin?
If his name does not ring a bell, perhaps something he said about rape might help you place him.
“First of all, from what I understand from doctors, that’s really rare. If it’s a legitimate rape, the female body has ways to try to shut that whole thing down.
Yes, indeed. He’s the former Republican Congressman from Missouri who, despite a subsequent apology, destroyed his political career when he made that statement during his campaign for the US Senate.
Absolutely bizarre that anyone could be so ignorant as to believe that rape victims can prevent a pregnancy unless they enjoyed being raped.
However, Akin isn’t your average ignorant person.
He’s a boatload of stupid because he has reaffirmed what he said in a new book.
Now he wishes that he never apologized in the first place because of the way it validated his wrongdoing. “By asking the public at large for forgiveness,” Akin writes, “I was validating the willful misinterpretation of what I had said.”
“My comment about a woman’s body shutting the pregnancy down was directed to the impact of stress on fertilization. This is something fertility doctors debate and discuss. Doubt me? Google ‘stress and infertility,’ and you will find a library of research on the subject,” he added.
Stubborn and stupid is tough to overcome, but this guy is absolutely wallowing in it.
