Twenty percent of Americans believe Sun orbits the Earth

Tuesday, June 10, 2014

Good morning:

Now I understand why so many people on the right are so abysmally ignorant.

CJ Werleman of AlterNet reports today,

This week, Gallup released a poll showing 42 percent of Americans still believe God created human beings in their present form less than 10,000 years ago. Last week, the Carsey Institute at the University of New Hampshire published a study showing only 28 percent of Tea Party Republicans trust scientists.

It gets worse. More than two-thirds of Americans, according to surveys conducted for the National Science Foundation, are unable to identify DNA as the key to heredity. Nine out of 10 don’t understand radiation and what it can do the human body, while one in five adult Americans believe the sun revolves around the earth.

Words fail.

new discovery by scientists: Earth revolves around money.

They may be right given the fact the sun is not fixed and is its self like everything In our Galaxy.

Orbiting a super massive black hole at the centre of our Galaxy.

I bet the same 20% believe that black males have a unique gene that allows them to levitate deadly concrete out of sidewalks to be used as a lethal weapon.

The original Flight of the Phoenix had a great line wherein Dorfmann has enough of Towns obstinate denial of logic and states:

“Mr Towns, you behave as if stupidity were a virtue”

And I feel that sums up the right wing, quite well.

One of the TV late-night comedians used to go out & interview folks on the street about simple things and they would say the most ignorant answers but they would then sign releases and let it be broadcast on TV! Even on college campuses! It always got a laugh but it was pathetic in its way, too.

  6. Malisha says:

Wait a minute — what’s wrong with the sun revolving around the earth? Are you a commie or something? Didn’t it say in the Book of Joshua 10:13 that God made the sun stand still for “about a whole day” so Israel could avenge itself on its enemies? So if it doesn’t revolve around the earth how did he make it stand still? If it wasn’t revolving, he wouldn’t have had to make it stand still.

Sheesh. Don’t they teach logic in the schools any more?

What, are they too concerned with sex education (ever since that president said he didn’t know what sex was) to teach elementary logic?

    Do the MATH!
