Wednesday Evening Open Thread

Wednesday, May 14, 2014

Good evening:

(1) In the you-can’t-make-this-stuff-up department, former Florida Republican Congressman Allen West announced on Monday that Boko Haram’s kidnapping of approximately 200 girls in Nigeria is a fishy Obama plot to distract the nation from Benghazi.

(2) Having mentioned #BringBackOurGirls, I simply can’t leave the subject without mentioning the delicious savaging of right-wing troll Anne Coulter on twitter.

(3) But there are some good people in Florida, right? Of course, but look what happened to two of them.

Chico and Debbie Jimenez took Jesus’s words seriously when he said, according to Matthew 25:40,

Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.

Financed by private donations and assisted by volunteers, they have been organizing and feeding a nutritious lunch to more than 100 homeless people every Wednesday in Manatee Park in Daytona, FL for over a year. Their reward: a permanent ban and fines totaling $746 for the crime of feeding the homeless.

Here’s a video of the last feed.

(4) Finally, I mentioned yesterday that Representative John Conyers has been stricken from the Democratic primary ballot because he supposedly did not have 1,000 valid signatures. He is appealing the decision and the ACLU says the decision to strike his name is unconstitutional. He said he would run as a write-in candidate, if his appeal fails.

Let’s see your comments to these and other stories and please let us know if you like this new feature that we are trying out this week.

Hi Santiago, Crane-Station here, Fred’s wife. Fred has gone to sleep, actually, but I will make sure that he sees this first thing in the morning, all right? I am sorry to hear this, for real.

Santiago, Crane-Station here again. I am going to go ahead and mod-note your comment, because of the privacy issue, for you, so it is not a banning, just a privacy issue, okay…

  2. Hi Crane and Fred – I have a comment in moderation because it has two links. Cheers and have a wonderful day!

Note how the cops were very scared about the suspect who had, in their mind, a gun. So they shot him.

Besides protection, under the color of law, to execute those of color, how are these men any different than George Zimmerman or Michael Dunne?

Although I loath the man, George Zimmerman, at least made an attempt at detaining the subject before he panicked, got pissed, or whatever, and then did his “summary adjudication”.

There definitely needs to be a movement in this country to have all acts of police officers subject to criminal review by a board of citizens living in the communities that these officers swear to protect and serve.

We should also take guns away from patrol officers.

If there is a weapon that they think is held by a suspect, then they must call in armed back up.

The line that it is better for the guilty to go free, than the innocent to be punished sure was floated by the Zimmerman lovers.

Well, what about it is better for a guilty person to get away to be caught another day, than an innocent to die?

And don’t tell me white privilege does not apply.

That young man was shot down like a dog in a hail of bullets, 12 of which missed, that could have hit other innocent people with non-white skin, including babies.

And yet we let a white man and his armed stooges point real, not imaginary, guns at law enforcement officers; and do nothing because innocents might get hurt in the battle.

    • I absolutely agree about citizens boards. However, I can see how those could simply stamp PASS on all police activities as well.

I hope to see every police deparment in this country with oversight from citizen boards with balls and teeth.

  4. What do you suppose Annette and her minions are up to now via their “FBI Project?” “Rusty Trombone” is David Piercy.

Well the shot-and-jailed kid’s father said somebody would “have a heart” and realized “they messed up.” Huh? They’re gonna “have a lawyer” and realize if they don’t succeed in their lies and their cover-up, they’re gonna pay for what they did and we ALL know that isn’t in their plans.

    • Malisha says:

I will bet you that whoever threatened him earlier that evening is the one who sicced (sp?) the cops on him, suggesting he was a criminal. Notice the “You didn’t assault us, right?” came from the cop, not the victim, and notice the kid addresses the cops repeatedly as “sir.”

The evil police don’t care as long as they put black people Latinos in prison. Prison is the new worse slavery.

Oh the Coulter stuff is too delicious. What a brainless ninny. Somebody, Quick, get the grappling hook!
