Witnesses are testifying today before grand jury in Kendrick Johnson case

Thursday, March 13, 2014

Good afternoon:

Victor Blackwell and Devon Sayers of CNN are reporting a new development in the Kendrick Johnson case.

Kendrick Johnson’s former schoolmates and their parents have been subpoenaed by a federal grand jury investigating the Georgia teen’s 2013 death, according to sources with knowledge of the subpoenas.

Among those seen entering the federal courthouse in Macon on Thursday were current students at Lowndes High School and current and former students at Valdosta High School, also located in Lowndes County.

Outside the federal courthouse Thursday, U.S. Attorney Michael Moore said, “We’re working methodically, and sometimes we remember we’re running a marathon instead of a sprint. So, we’re working on it. It’s better to get it right than to get it fast. I’m satisfied that the FBI is moving forward at the appropriate speed, and they’re doing a fine job.”

This is an encouraging development.

Has Sheriff Pine, High School leadership, GBI or their forensic team or the boys that Crump accused of being involved been subpeaned? Will they be testifying?

    • Malisha says:

The cover-up may be a more protected crime than the crime itself. As is often the case.

      • lyn says:

Who would be directing a Federal Grand Jury to cover up a crime? Would Moore be doing a cover up on a Federal Level?
Still, will we be seeing the folk accused of being co-conspirators sworn in before a Federal GJ? If not, why not?

        • Malisha says:

The thing is, when they pull a cover-up “show trial” in front of an actual jury after someone is charged with a crime, it’s public. Grand juries being secret, anything goes even more dishonestly. They don’t even have to PRETEND it was real. They could parade a bunch of people in there to lie as they had been instructed to lie, and the grand jury would hand out a no-bill. I have seen it happen.

The FBI and DOJ investigation stuff is endless. Years to come sniff and come to a conclusion. Ridiculous. I think they are afraid to make a decision and announce their supposed conclusions.

What in the world can those students from the High School tell that no one knows by now?

      • trisha says:

Well I can answer that , it appears they really found KJ body at 7:15 am, tweets between a student and his parents and another student prove that and not the time they said he was found, the first call from the school was about a cardiac arrest not that they found someone dead, they also moved the body out of the gym and then brought it back before the EMS got there, another student tweeted that, and that is just a little of what is going on. but the body was found @ 7:15 am and everyone knew he was dead because of how he looked and the smell. also it appears two police officers son’s are involved in this, that info came from KJ lawyer

    • The feds are notoriously slow, but there are troublesome signs that the Justice Department is unwilling to prosecute the torturers, the financial terrorists (i.e., bankers) who almost destroyed our economy, and the police for civil rights violations.

Big money talks with this administration and I doubt big money is seeking justice for Trayvon, Jordan, or Kendrick.

Unfortunately, we are living in a time where the appearance of justice is more important than justice.

Sad but true. We have quite a bit of experience fighting “financial terrorists” but sometimes we kick their ass…..it takes a toll, but once in awhile.

I’ll look at it as the half full glass and considering the number of those called and from another school……I’ll say…..Hmmmmm?
They may be onto something we don’t know about. Remember the last, or next to last to see Kendrick alive AND the kid who had a beef with him has a dad who is a Federal Agent. For it to get this far is more promising than depressing.

Sadly, the appearance of justice is often not well dressed enough to even hold up its end. The “appearance of justice” in the Fogen case was pretty damn shabby. That’s all I expect of this, frankly, as well.

finally.. this means they found something..

    • Not necessarily, although I am inclined to regard this glass as half full rather than half empty.

They may be presenting what they have discovered during the investigation and allowing the grand jurors to ask questions. Sort of like a coroner’s inquest so that they can claim no stone was left unturned, if the grand jury doesn’t indict anyone.

The people they have subpoenaed do not appear to be targets or subjects of the grand jury investigation. Anyone who fits in either of those categories would have a right to counsel and a right to remain silent. They would be excused from appearing in the normal course of events.

The US Attorney would play let’s make a deal with subjects in order to flip them against the targets.

I was surprised that students from Valdosta High School were subpoenaed. I am not aware of any connection to that school.

At least it looks like the feds are doing their job, but there is a big difference between looking busy and actually doing something.

I hope some of those students are the ones that entered the Gym with him.
