Should Satanic Temple be built outside the Statehouse in Oklahoma City?

Sunday, December 8, 2013

Good afternoon:

Imagine an interactive display on the public square for children to learn about Satan.

In the unintended consequences subcategory of right wing foolishness we have this report out of Oklahoma City,

In their zeal to tout their faith in the public square, conservatives in Oklahoma may have unwittingly opened the door to a wide range of religious groups, including Satanists who are seeking to put their own statue next to a Ten Commandments monument outside the Statehouse.

Lucien Greaves, spokesperson for the New York-based Satanic Temple, said:

“We believe that all monuments should be in good taste and consistent with community standards,” Greaves wrote in letter to state officials. “Our proposed monument, as an homage to the historic/literary Satan, will certainly abide by these guidelines.”

Greaves said one potential design involves a pentagram, a satanic symbol, while another is meant to be an interactive display for children. He said he expects the monument, if approved by Oklahoma officials, would cost about $20,000.

I can hear it now,

Mommy, Mommy. Look at the horny man with the spiked tail.

Someone should open a concession and sell fuzzy Satan dolls for kids to snuggle up with at night.

This idea perfectly illustrates why there should be a separation between church and state.

  1. Two sides to a story says:

That might go over in a major city in a blue state. I have a feeling it won’t fly in OK.

I’ve worked with people who think Atheist are Satanist, confuses me if you don’t believe in God how can you believe their is a devil. There was one person that believed the US Government had the right to impose a religion on you and prohibit people from practicing other religions. She said that the authors of the Constitution never resolved that….guess which party she votes for.

    More on topic.

I feel that Satanism is as rational a practice, when subject to scientific examination, as any of the other “truths”. So they should have an equal access to the public forum in Oklahoma City.

…act they had no part in, then they will have to face me.

BTW, the MCC in Maryland is right next to a large Greek Orthodox Church and their overflow of cars is allowed to park in our lot.

And given the bad blood between those two in the old world, I think our way is the American way – tolerance.

Indicting an entire group based on the acts of individuals plays a very large role in why it is A-OK amongst many Americans to kill a black male out of fear.

So, may I ask if you feel “a” or “the” spokesman for the “black community” should be apologizing for “the knockout game”?

I mean “some men” who practiced Islam, who were largely Saudi, attacked the WTC.

Did you ever stop to think that many of those who died in that tragedy were Americans, who happed to practice Islam?

My wife and children practice Islam.

If any talking fool ever tells them that they have to apologize or be ashamed of an

    this is interesting
    it’s their religion right?

    • Girlp says:

Our Government is neutral on religion this was a political terroist act not truly a religious act. It had to do more with American’s (Militray base’s ) in Saudi Arabia the religious part is fought mainly in Pakistain, Afganistan and the Middle East. I think a lot of Amercian’s think the terrorist represent the Islamic Faith.

“Should Satanic Temple be built outside the Statehouse in Oklahoma City?”

Absolutely. There probably isn’t enough room inside the Statehouse for a suitably large Temple.

  8. Lyn says:

After giving a Muslim Temple a building permit for a Mosque down the street from the World Trade Center, I give up on this stuff.
