George Zimmerman, Mr. I-was-just-minding-my-own-business, hearing today at 1:30 pm

Tuesday, November 19, 2013

Good morning:

You would pretty much have to be dead to not know that George Zimmerman was booked into the Seminole County Jail yesterday afternoon for aggravated assault with a weapon, a felony, in addition to a misdemeanor battery-domestic violence and criminal mischief. The alleged victim is Samantha Scheibe, 27, his girlfriend who apparently precipitated the incident when she ordered him to pack up his things and move out. She was not injured.

USA Today has a quick summary of the situation:

He is being held without bail pending an initial court appearance at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, which is customary in domestic violence arrests. [Chief Deputy Dennis] Lemma said the sheriff will ask the judge to impose electronic monitoring if bail is granted, which is also standard in such cases.

The argument between Zimmerman and Scheibe, 27, involved “some kind of separation in their relationship,” Lemma said.

According to the arrest report, after Scheibe told Zimmerman to pack his things, he “cocked the shotgun” before putting the two guns in one case. She told deputies he then became upset as she carried his belongings out and he took out the shotgun. Scheibe said she was going to call police, and Zimmerman pointed the weapon at her for a minute and “asked her if she really wanted to do that.”

Zimmerman then smashed a glass-top coffee table with the gun butt and ordered Sheibe out, she told deputies. He pushed her out and locked the door.

He also barricaded himself behind the front door and called 911 to report his side off the story, precipitating this classic line from the 911 operator:

Why would you call 911 when the police are standing outside the house?

He answers,

They’re pretty upset I think.

The officers are upset?

Yeah, they’re banging on the door and the window.

Are you going to go speak with them?

Uhm, I don’t have anything to say.

Except he did have something to say.

I just wanted to leave.

She told me it was better if I leave. She is pregnant with our child. It was better if we co-parented and she raised the child on her own.

I said, that’s fine, if that’s what you want to do.

She said, “yes.”

So, I started packing up my stuff getting ready to leave and she went nuts.

She started smashing stuff, taking stuff that belonged to me and throwing it outside, throwing it out of her room, throwing it all over the place.

She broke the glass table with something. I don’t know what.

I don’t know if it was mine or hers, whatever it was.

She got mad, I guess, because I told her I was willing to leave.

I guess she thought I was going to argue with her, but she’s pregnant, and I’m not going to put her through that kind of stress.

He neglected to mention that he was not going to put himself through the kind of stress that happens when you talk to cops.

Turns out Samantha Scheibe not pregnant.

The hearing this afternoon is not an arraignment. It’s an Initial Appearance. The judge will read him his rights, review the arrest report for probable cause, and consider setting bail and conditions of release.

According to Chief Deputy Dennis Lemma, the Sheriff will ask for electronic monitoring, if the judge sets conditions of release.

No contact with the alleged victim also is a standard condition of release.

The aggravated assault charge is for pointing the shotgun at Scheibe. If convicted, he faces a 20-year minimum mandatory sentence.

As you can see, Mr. I-was-just-minding-my-own-business is going to deny handling any weapon and breaking the glass table with the shotgun.

This is going to be the I-was-just-minding-my-own-business-when-my-pregnant-girlfriend-went-all-crazy-on-me defense.

Too bad for him that she isn’t pregnant.

(Not that it would make a difference in any event)

  1. Carlyle Moulton says:

Poor Travon Martin, he encountered this loon and the loon lost his head and manslaughtered Travon.

It looks more and more as if manslaughter is the verdict the jury should have reached had they known then what this incident says about fat George.

  2. sharon ayers says:

    Just a few disconnected thoughts.

George appears serene almost smug in court.

This GF Samantha and George have been friends for 11 years.

By calling 911 when the police were at his door, he was creating a record… reminds me of his video after the death of Trayvon.. He didn’t have to take the stand.. Same strategy.

I hope she is NOT pregnant.

I also cannot imagine letting some guy move it with 2 handguns, a shotgun and an assault rifle.

  3. lurker says:

Watching now–he’s waiting to make an entrance.

  6. I believe his strongest and only defense is, really, that he is in a place with a broken criminal justice system. A person with a conscience would man up and deal…hope for a plea offer. I don’t think that’s too likely, and I partially blame the system down there for supporting his disgusting behavior over and over.

For example, will he go running, crying to the Court of Appeals again this time, if he doesn’t like this judge?

  7. ed nelson says:

Thanks for the movie, that’s it! Laughter is the antidote for what ails ya most of the time, especially the dread… Mergollens!

Why the heck is comedy so hard to find on TV, other than them confounded whacked out cartoons like Squid fruit what’s it called?

  9. The hearing will take place at 1:30 PM, about 40 minutes from now, and since we are noticing some sites that will Livestream this interesting, albeit short, hearing, we will likely put up a separate Open Thread for that.

This is his MO, blame the other person for his actions they did it not me it’s all her fault. How many times are they going to fall for this!

I mean he threw her out of her own HOUSE!

    • MDH says:

Another characteristic of a liar is that their stories will have minute details such as conversation yet leave out aspects of the event one would expect to be remembered.

He gives a detailed recollection of “a conversation” but can’t remember the object used to smash a table.

      We have seen this before.

You got a problem with me, homie?

      No, I don’t have a problem

      Well, you do now

Q:George, if you were beaten 20 to 30 time MMA style, how come your face is not more marked up?

      A:I donno

The reason for this is rather obvious.

The detail is added to aspects that can not be factually verified to give the impression of being credible. Lack of recollection of key details is done on purpose to avoid a comparison with facts that can be collected.

And how in the Hell did anybody not see through this guy from the get go?

      • Drew says:

The details are vivid because he made them up after the fact. They never happened, so he can’t “forget” them.

        • MDH says:

Just like he remembered that his six shooter impregnated his girl in a blaze of orgiastic glory wherein, in fact, it misfired prematurely.

          • fauxmccoy says:

as it likely does if it even fires at all

          • Girlp says:

So I’m guessing now he will say the girlfriend lied when she told him she was pregnant which makes anything she says unreliable or untruthful….this is how he gets away with so much plus daddyz’s help. I am praying he doesn’t at least the public will be safe from him for 20 years if the charges stick I’m praying because I’m not hopeful he seems to get away with everything.

          • Two sides to a story says:

😀 You can’t make this stuff up! GirlP – Fogen supporters are calling her a liar, claiming that she said she was pregnant when she’s not. Looks like Fogen is the one who claims she’s pregnant. They like his lies but won’t tolerate any fudging from anyone else.

A classic case of Mergollins disorder. The host of the fungazoid is coaxed into a deep self deception/somnolence or otherwise called: state of denial, (not the same as the state called De Nile… !). Well that isn’t really a state either, but… A river does, Run… through it. You can usually tell when somebody has the denial syndrome because they don’t listen to any advice about things.

Like when the girl friend suggested that he move out, he took it as an insult instead of immediately going out the door. What a doofus, you gotto know when a lady does her prerogatives and ” suggests” something, don’t sass back, just go with it!! and don’t let the door hit ya in the ass either, in the long run you will be the winner because, sorry to interject this item, but if you do what women tell you scrupulously, they will go nuts.

That don’t mean you win, but it can buy some time to get ahead a little often.

        Yeah, but…….
not just a public defender, this asshat has been assigned the *chief* public defender in Seminole County to represent him

      • I read in the article that the public defender is going to submit under seal 2 potential addresses in central Florida.

Could they be the incredibly credible Mark the air marshal and the former medic in Nam who qualified himself as a scream identification expert and then identified GZ as the source of the scream?

Or how ’bout his uncle Joe or whatever his name is?

Better yet, how ’bout B-37 and her husband?

        • fauxmccoy says:

former nam medic and wife have officially disowned george after the DV sitch with shellie. says that gz had not even bothered to say hello after the trial. they were disgusted that he shacked up with some new lady immediately afterward and his treatment of shellie. medic says he’d through gz’s gun in a lake if given the opportunity. he sounded somewhat remorseful for his participation in hindsight. i think we can cross him off the list.

          • Malisha says:

Remorseful? PUNK! He gets up and perjures himself more than he ever pissed himself as a baby and now he wants to change his mind based on the fact that Fogen wasn’t NICE to him? Why should Fogen be NICE to him if all he did was tell the truth about something that he actually KNEW? Boo hoo for him and everybody else who doesn’t think Fogen didn’t do them right. They’re lucky he didn’t do them as he did Trayvon Martin.

        • Trained Observer says:

Uncle Jorge, who just knew it was Fogen screaming … yes, perfect.

        • lurker says:

Funny–his addresses were under seal, but they made the gf’s address(es) a part of the public record and stated them loudly and clearly 2X in court.

          • fauxmccoy says:

i noticed that. poor woman will undoubtedly get harassed from the unhinged fringe set.

          • Malisha says:

I can’t go for any “poor woman” on SS. Come to think of it, her initials are SS, aren’t they? HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!

            Pox on both their houses.

  17. I am not expecting Zimmerman will be released because he does not have a permanent address or a job.

Under those circumstances, I would deny bail, if I were the judge.

    • Trained Observer says:

Damn … another downside to not having a job or an address. Let’s hope Judge Scott sees it that way.

    • Lynn says:

His Public Defender has stated he has two addresses he could give but all will be secret due to GZ’s security and threats.

He ain’t dead yet after all of this. How long is the courts going to allow his defcon 5 level go on?

  18. I don’t know if the hearing will be live-streamed, but I’m guessing someone will do it.

Does a simple domestic dispute with no injuries to either party and no resisting arrest really require a CSI investigation to determine who broke a few household items?

Is it a felony to lock someone out of their home after they threaten to call the police, or does it ensure things don’t escalate prior to their arrival?

I’m sure Sheriff H. Dumpty will be along soon to let us know…

I swear to God, I have NEVER seen more stupidity than what I see congregated over there. I’m surprised they didn’t shoot him, since cops shoot people in stressful situations all the time for much less than not answering the door and barricading it.

    • fauxmccoy says:

i took a very rare peek into the treehouse. it was actually quite amusing. a few folks actually now feel ripped off and question (finally!) if their hero really is an upstanding guy.

this is causing some division in the die-hard who will support him no matter what. conspiracy theories abound … some are convinced that obama/holder are involved, bribed all these women to claim DV. a real delusional crowd.

i will say, it was heartening to see folks there and at HP admit that they were likely wrong in their original assessment. i will never comment at the outhouse, but on HP, i am quite supportive of those who will come forward publicly and admit they were wrong, that takes serious character and humility … too bad they were so late with their revelations.

      • MDH says:

I hope the same is true at Daily Kos. The problem I see with well, educated white progressives is that their ego blinds them to the point that they feel they are white knights {pun definitely intended} who, due to their intellect, can make objective determinations about what is right and good for segments of society that they never have an real contact with.

If they would actually listen to Black Americans, they might learn something.

Instead, what I saw in the progressives defending George was a subtle or even overt attitude that Black people let their emotions override objectivity, unlike them.

That, my friends, is racist to the core.

Look at how they harped on that bloody sell phone photo.

One of the first rules in trauma medicine is to clean up a wound so that an “objective” determination of damage can be made as it is well known that blood and other fluids can make a minor wound appear to be what it is not.

        • fauxmccoy says:

that brings up the old ‘with friends like that …’ axiom, no?

my experience with other liberal/progressive sites (salon, huffpost) is that there was a HUGE influx of new users (i.e. not liberal/progressive) posting derogatory items about the martin family right after the shooting. i will defer to your more encompassing knowledge of daily kos, i never liked the format, so it never appealed to me.

what had once been relative safe havens turned into places i just did not want to be after the shooting, it’s why i wound up here.

        • Two sides to a story says:

On the open thread yesterday, they did have a few Fogen excusers who were summarily put down, then the group moved to other topics. Usually you can’t talk about Fogen unless Jeralyn puts up a dedicated thread and gives you permission – you’re supposed to take the Fogen conversations to the Fogen forum.

. Jeralyn has been busy moving for the past six weeks. I can hardly wait to see if she’s still interested in defending his crazy a55.

  20. Boyd says:

They need to take down everyone who helped this guy. Serino knew he was a psychopath, but gave in and said he believed him. He cannot be a cop any longer. The female cop has to go. I pray the video guy will be out of business. Judge Nelson for allowing that charade to go on in her courtroom. The Jurors for believing the psychopath’s version. And O’Mara’s job as an analyst should be KAPUT!

The only person who would not put up with his crap was Judge Lester.

    • MDH says:

Serino definitely played a role in the sham prosecution:

Off of the top of my head:

      Serino: Hear that screaming?

      George: That’s not me.

      Serino: That is you, George.

IMO, George held TM in utter contempt and knew that was the scream. In a slip up, George says that’s not him because the macho/contempt side of his brain blurted out.

An honest investigator would have seized on this moment and quickly asked:

      So that was TM?

      Instead, Serino covers George’s ass.

Serino: There are not any defensive wounds on your hands and arms, how do you explain that?

      George: I dunno

Serino: Well maybe the sleeves on your jacket {utter BS to prevent bruises on hard forearm bones} prevented any wounds. But it is something that will come up

Again, Serino covers George’s ass rather than press home how illogical it is the be wailed on by 20 to 30 MMA style blows and have not one bruise on your arms.

It is like Serino was giving George a consultation on how to bolster the holes in his BS story.

Note my quotes above are not verbatim, but are close, IMO.

    • bettykath says:

“Serino knew he was a psychopath, but gave in and said he believed him.”

Check out the questions he was asked. He volunteered the pathological liar comment but was asked again, this time with a time frame specified. In the specified time frame, I think Serino did believe him. It was later, a time frame never mentioned, that Serino disbelieved him and him pegged for pathological liar that he is.. Serino knew but he was never asked by the prosecution, part of their throwing of the case. And, of course, the defense liked his earlier opinion that fogen was telling the truth.

      • Malisha says:

I do not believe that Serino OR Singleton EVER believed Fogen’s story. They just pretended to. Then they went onstage and pretended to again, for the jury. Both should be canned and at least one of them investigated thoroughly for corruption. Guess which one.

  21. Rachael says:

While his phone call was hysterically funny, there is a very SERIOUS aspect to it. Listen to her call then his call – listen to them side by side. Do you notice anything? What were we all saying about the situation with Trayvon, where GZ was the one who said you are going to die tonight, where GZ was the one who attacked, where Trayvon was the one who was screaming, but GZ turned everything around – listen to the phone calls. You hear what is happening in hers WHILE IT IS HAPPENING, yet he calls and turns it all around, just like we said when it was Travon. Do you think ANYONE will FINALLY pick up on this?

    • fauxmccoy says:

yes rachael – i almost posted something to that effect myself last night.

all jokes aside, that call is EERIE! it demonstrates how in a matter of minutes he can go from crazed lunatic to utter calm…. what do you want to bet his vitals were normal in that call? after an ugly DV situation, door barricades, guns now locked up (there must have been some exertion as well as adrenalin pumping) and popo pounding at the door. . . yet utter calm in the eye of the storm. EERIE.

    • ks says:

Bingo! Exactly right. I noticed that yesterday and that’s what going to get him this time. As you siad, you can hear the events as they are happening in her call and his call and actions (barricading himself in) are so obviously self serving and absurd that they, in fact, make the case for her and the authorities.

    • Carlyle Moulton says:

I had a 98% suspicion that fat George’s account of the Travon Martin affair which he gave to the police was lies wherever the truth would not have served his interest. That leaves 2% probability that it was substantially true which is well beyond reasonable doubt so the jury came to the correct conclusion.

One part of George’s account triggered my bullshit detector to scream, it was where he said that Travon said “you are going to die tonight homie”. This struck me as being how a white racist thinks black homeboys speak rather than how blacks from the underclass actually speak. One possible explanation of the Travon affair is that fat George got away with 1st or 2nd degree murder, that he followed Travon with the intention of provoking a fight and then shooting him in self defense. That George told Travon “you are going to die homie” while showing him the gun and it was Travon who was screaming in justified fear of his life, that those witnesses who said that they saw Travon on top raining MMA style blows down on George were simply wrong because of the absence of sufficient light, or lied out of white solidarity.

However this latest information on George shows him to be a narcissist with an anger management problem and a short fuse. It is possible that he followed Travon intending to join him in a small drama but not intending to kill, however things did not go to plan and he shot Travon in a rage just as he broke the glass table.

      • Reasonable doubt is defined as “such a doubt as would exist in the mind of a reasonable person after fully and fairly considering all of the evidence or lack of evidence.”

It’s not about the amount or percentage of the evidence; it’s about the quality and materiality or importance of the evidence relative to the issues in the case. Even the absence of evidence can be a relevant and important consideration, particularly with respect to the burden of proof and which party has it.

This is why lawyers and judges do not mention percentages when discussing or explaining reasonable doubt.

Had she lied to him regarding her status? Was he gullible enough to believe her? Or did he make it up out of whole cloth in order to feel more manly? … Time will tell.

I seem to recall a portion of the Hannity interview where he holds his unborn children in high esteem.

  26. Rachael says:

LOL!!! Yeah, it’s just like that!!! OMG. You should have heard me laughing at his call – especially when the 911 operator asked why he was calling if the police were already there. Like I said, I woke up my housemate at the other end of the house I was howling so hard. If I had not known he had been arrested and this had happened, if someone had just played that call for me, I’d have thought it was some kind of satire.

While I can appreciate the worse penalty he’d get, I’m glad, for her sake and that of the world, that is girlfriend isn’t pregnant though.

    • I thought it was a joke. Honest to God. I didn’t think it could possibly be real.

      • Rachael says:

Crane-Station, had I not already known he was arrested, I would have thought so too. What a wonderful way for him to go down, with everyone laughing at him and no one getting hurt, but really, it was hard to believe that call was real. The cops are outside and I think they are mad, they are knocking on the door. Well let them in you fool!! LMAO

        • I’ll just bet they had guns drawn. I’ll bet they did.

          • fauxmccoy says:

undoubtedly — it’s the situation LE hates the most. there is no way to predict how it’s going to go down. his failure to come out and the barricade present a real problem for them. i’m wondering still what became of the dog. a rottie mixed in with that whole scene could really up the fear factor.

          • Dave says:

Shellie is demanding custody of the dogs. I hope they are with her.

          • How many are there? And yes, hoping the dogs are safe. Like, with Shellie. Hell, I can see him shooting one of the dogs, he’s so far of the rails.

          • fauxmccoy says:

@crane — shooting an animal that a partner cares about is straight out of the DV perp playbook. it is a direct and very personal threat by proxy. hopefully, it can’t happen now.

          • Oh! That’s right, I forgot, he won’t be allowed to have all those guns while he is sorting out this latest debacle.

          • Dave says:

I believe there are 2 dogs

          • Okay, hope they are in good hands.

        • racerrodig says:

That call rates right there with a “Jerky Boys” call.

          “Where is she now”
          “Outside with the police”
“……..then why are you calling us?”
“ummm, because I want the truth to be heard”

          Which should be followed by

“Then why are YOU even talking?……..when have YOU even stated the truth”

  27. Drew says:

Sounds awfully similar to the I-was-just-minding-my-business-when-the-scary-black-thug-jumped-me defense.

  28. CherokeeNative says:

    “To bad she isn’t pregnant”

    Why Professor?

    • Rachael says:

      Harsher penalty.

    • Also, her alleged pregnancy is the basis for his claim that she was irrational.

Apparently, he believes that’s all you have to say and everyone will understand that she was nuts to throw him out.

      • Dave says:

….because he’s such a good provider and all-around supportive and studly guy.

        • Lynn says:

Yep, it says it right there on the arrest affidavit…UNEMPLOYED.

          • Lonnie Starr says:

Meanwhile a neighbor has said that his truck has been sitting in the driveway for months. My guess is she finally got tired of doing everything for him and him being unappreciative of her efforts.

It’s probably been weeks of: “Honey you know I can’t go out there, there are black people looking to kill me!” So she shops, does laundry, housework and all, while he watches cartoons on tee vee all day.

“Honey, no Nightline tonight, my program is coming on, Road Runner meets Godzilla”. LOL!

Same old tired George: What I did you did, what you did I did!

Trouble is, this time it’s her neighborhood not his. It’s her house not his and they’re not married, so he’s just a hang around boy friend who probably has no money and no place else to go.

I got the impression, I don’t know why, but that maybe she thought he was a celebrity of sorts who would be doing appearances for money. When she realized that wouldn’t be the case and he was still trying to live off his faded glory and boss her around, she finally decided enough was enough.

I think we’re getting closer to the final chapter in his story.

    • ay2z says:

Pregnancy issue is still up in the air unless she independently confirms? Because she told 911 operator she didn’t want to say some things as she knows this call would go public.

She may not have detailed that issue in her call for privacy reasons.

  29. Zimmerman’s call reminds me of this:
