I know of a case — a kid was seeing a psychiatrist because he had serious problems with depression and drugs for years after his brother committed suicide. Get this: the year his brother shot himself with the GUN HIS PARENTS HAD GIVEN HIM FOR CHRISTMAS was the year his younger brother (the one in the psychiatri8st’s office) turned 12 and the big bro (who killed himself) turned 15. So then when the younger brother was 15, the parents gave him THE EXACT SAME GUN — not the same make and model or anything, the actual physical SAME GUN, for Christmas.
He obviously waited too long to get professional help and his parents should have had it decades before!

I read about the two year old the other day and was livid. Personally I prefer blades to my own gun, but that’s me. And it really wasn’t even the fact this five year old was able to lay hands on his very loaded birthday present, that had me ready to strangle this family. It was the nerve of the Grandmother to say it was “God’s will”. As a mother and a rational person I don’t think I’ve been so mad and that includes with this case.
Liquor and fireworks – ever since they legalized fireworks(and two year round shops opened) thats pretty much the norm up here.
As my Dad said time and time again, “I wish these people would stop blaming everything on God.”
Disgusting. I get so nauseous when “1st kills” are published in the Chronicle. Lets celebrate killing! I just don’t get it b

MMP- never killed ants. Lived away from other families growing up. Killed wasps in self defense. Played in a creek and captured and released critters but never wanted to kill anything more than insects. I saw “slaughter for food” but not as a sport at my grandparent’s ranch.

Remember creepy crawlers – I don’t know if they have them now, if they do it’s with a light bulb, but I’m talking back in the 60’s. It was basically a hotplate and you poured rubber-plasticstuff into metal molds and cooked the plastic-rubber stuff ’til it hardened and you would make bugs and you know, just the plastic stuff you see at the dollar store or in gum machines.
I wanted one SOOO bad so I told my dad he should get me one for Christmas so I could put hooks in the worms and we could use them for fishing.
I couldn’t have been more than 8 years old.
Like I said, today you would never give a child a hot plate and metal molds with a metal thing that had to be inserted properly to remove the hot metal molds from the hotplate.
But anyway, my point was, after the plastic-rubber stuff that came with the set ran out, I didn’t want to use my allowance money to buy more. So the hot plate was used to put ants on if we couldn’t find any antlion traps to put them in.

I had Creepy Crawlers !! Nothing like a red / green / blue and purple worm……nope…..nothing like it !! Back about 1965 or so. I made Crawlers and my sister made those little cakes in her Easy Bake Oven. In fact there was Crawler stuff that was edible.
Nothing like Snake Appetizers and Fake Cake…..I always say.

Yesterday I went looking for the Crickett site, and another “guns for kids sites” and they both mysteriously had server hangup page not found errors.
But I bet they won’t stop selling guns to babies, as soon as the fuss dies down.
Meanwhile, governments all over are banning the advertising of FOOD to children, if they’re what is regarded as being “not good for you”.
I am certified as a Rifle Instructor by the NRA and I teach youth shooting at the local gun range. I had a couple of “smaller” girls that wanted to learn how to shoot safely but the club rifles were too large for them. I recommended the Cricket rifle to their parents. They have a shorter stock. When it comes to teaching proper shooting techniques it is important to have the right “fit” for the shooter. A rifle stock that is too long or too short can be dangerous.
The shooting of the baby by the sibling is tragic and sad. But it is important to remember that it was the parents who made this decision and did not do 2 very important things. 1. Was to supervisor their child when they had possession of the rifle. 2. Not securing the rifle away from the child when they could not supervisor them.
I do not blame the gun manufacturer, I blame the parents. They should have gone through safety training before deciding on purchasing a firearm for their child and they should have hammered home the need for safety at all times into their child.
I grew up around firearms and it was drilled into me early on that you never point a gun at another person…..not even in jest. I teach firearm safety to youth and I drill that into them also, violate a rule and they are off the range.
The high school I went to had a shooting team…..Just as with the Olympics…..
Probably need the money for the impending lawsuits.
Algorhitm fails are understandable. Crappy, stupid marketing is just. . . ugh. I suppose you can get away with stuff like that in comedy routines, but in real life – ???
In a small town I lived in, there was a mom and pop cigar/cigarette/pipe and gun shop. It was roasted in a local play as “Gunsmoke” – LOL. Now that kinda humor and sales I can understand. Not quite sure what to do with the liquor and firearms shop. Shoot and Stagger?
One needs to know how to stagger and shoot accurately…..
Who knows when one will get into a shootout in a Texas bar?
Or at a gas station pickin’ up another bottle of wine…

Most gas station stores sell various types of alcohol throughout the SW. I don’t think anyone thinks anything of it.
As I said earlier….Colorado has drive through liquor stores………
Don’t even have to get out of the truck and stagger to the store for ur next bottle….

The whole idea of selling liquor and ammo at the same place just ain’t right……..
Look at the statistics….How many homicides ….by whatever means, involved alcohol……
Probably not quite as bad as selling beer in gas stations. They used to do this in Oklahoma. Maybe they still do.

Yup, some folks have told me that “bathtub bootleg” is still out there, and we live next door to one of the wettest damn dry counties I have ever seen, LOL.
Amazing we all did survive our youths! I grew up in Oregon, where we did our share of insane things as kids.
Lots of gas station pit stops sell liquor throughout the SW. That’s common practice.
Right across the street from me there is a liquor store and a gun store – they are two separate stored, but right next to each other – you know, small strip mall. That was kind of my first thought when I saw the place; do people buy their alcohol first or their guns and do they check at the gun store to see if the people are intoxicated?
Anyway, a couple of years ago (before there was a liquor store there), the gun store got robbed and the police department was absolutely frantic.
Do you still have state stores there, or did that all change (for liquor).

Nope Crane. As of last year, liquor can be sold in grocery stores. Retailers with at least 10,000 square feet can apply to sell liquor. But it didn’t turn out the way people thought. Takes made the prices higher and people got pissed and they have a HUGE problem with theft, even though they have stuff on the bottles kind of like shirts in department stores.
Wow, sorry to hear that. Seems misleading, as people weren’t expecting the higher prices along with the change.

Wow. For all of these: What WERE they thinking?
How wonderful, did you notice how casually the woman holds the rifle in the store, so that it’s pointing at someone’s head? I haven’t had a lot of experience with guns, but one thing that was always pounded at me was, never point a gun at anyone unless you were going to use it. Guns do discharge unexpectedly for a wide variety of reasons. Do you really want a loved one in front of one when that happens? I don’t think so. But there it is for the world to see, she’s handling the rifle as though it were a toy.
I never did like mountain dew, now I like it even less.
Taught my kids to shoot…..first with BB guns……Pointed in the wrong direction?…….They could be sure of a tap upside the head.
I NEVER allowed my kids to have any “toy” weapons….whether it be guns, swords, knives or whatever…
Mtn Dew?…….I drink prolly 2 litres a day……….after coffee in the morning.
If U mix it with Vodka U have a VooDew 🙂
