The beat goes on as Mark O’Mara continues to shamelessly pimp for his client.
Edmund DeMarche of Fox News writes:
George Zimmerman, the Florida man who fatally shot an unarmed Florida teenager last year, wears a disguise and a bulletproof vest whenever he is in public, his attorney said.
“He never feels safe,” Mark O’Mara, his lawyer, told FoxNews.com. “His security has been cut and he stays inside his secure location all day long due to threats.”
As a result of the confinement, Zimmerman’s health has taken a turn for the worse, O’Mara said. He gained about 100 pounds in six months and is stressed about the threats and his upcoming murder trial, which is set to begin on June 10.
“If I was confined to four rooms all day I bet I’d gain a lot of weight, too,” O’Mara said.
Next time you see the Michelin Man wearing sunglasses while standing in line at the Donut Shop, be sure to tap him on the shoulder and ask him for his autograph. Maybe he will give it to you for free, although I would not bet the ranch.
On second thought, we don’t need you to do that because this Afro Peruvian descendant of African kings might pull out a gun and blow away your heart.
Now prepare yourself for this fine example of journalism at its finest:
Last year, Zimmerman spotted Trayvon Martin walking through his neighborhood, a gated community, in Sanford, Fla. Martin was walking back to a house he was staying at in the community after a trip to a convenience store.
Zimmerman started to follow him because he thought he looked suspicious. Despite a police dispatcher telling him “you don’t have to do that,” Zimmerman got out of his truck to pursue Martin.
They got into a fight and Martin was shot.
You gotta love that integrity.
But wait, there’s more:
O’Mara said he talks with Zimmerman every day. He said the couple relies on donations to survive since neither one can hold down a job.
He said Zimmerman, who previously aspired to be a judge, looks forward to the trial to begin, but has been disenfranchised about the legal proceedings thus far.
To be sure, even if his client is acquitted, O’Mara said he will likely never feel safe in his hometown or Florida.
“He’d have to go somewhere where nobody knows him,” O’Mara said.
So, O’Mara and his client are a “couple” and poor George is wearing bulletproof vests and disguises while he steadily eats himself to death because he doesn’t get to vote on the outcome of his trial.
Excuse me, while I cry me a river of tears.

I’ve been reading the comments to the effect that GZ’s huge (pun intended) weight gain may have been deliberate, but I disagree. I think it’s the result of the same lack of impulse control that led him to pursue TM and shoot and kill him. That’s a symptom of his ADD or ADHD disorder, and it can also be exacerbated by some of the meds he’s been prescribedl
At any rate, remember that list of junk foods he bought while he was in jail and awaiting his bond hearing? I think that represented his usual diet. He did lose around 20 lbs.. while he was hiding out at the Ostermans immediately after the shooting, which could have been because they served the couple healthier meals or because he was embarrassed to pig out in front of them.

Funny you mention that, because on April 6, 2012 as GZ was traveling through the State of Maryland, ShelLIE was spending money in restaurants. Oh — he did stop at KFC.
Since GZ hadn’t setup his beg site then, maybe she could only afford to feed herself.

I disagree with those who find that GZ’s OB may have been deliberate.
I also disagree with those who find that GZ’s OB is the result his opulent lifestyle and lack of self-control.
IMO, GZ knows what Angela Corey and BDLR know: he killed Trayvon in cold blood. GZ knows that the evidence is there and that it’s just a matter of a few months before he heads to prison. As such, GZ’s mind is preoccupied with a lot of things: (a) Shattered dreams of becoming a Judge/Cop (whatever), (b) life imprisonment, (c) the known unknowns of everyday life in prison, (d) Shellie divorcing him, marrying a Black guy and making babies with him (oh, that worries him MOST), etc. All these, which can devastate a feeble minded male, are weighing heavily on GZ forcing him to takes refuge in food and strong medication (that can affect his sense of reality). The fact that GZ (a grown married man) calls O’Mara every day (for some form of emotional comfort) tells me that that guy is mentally unstable, is freaking out – while “fearful”, “mistrusting” and “confused”.

When Fogen was living at Osterman’s after the killing but before being jailed, he was in a different emotional period of his life. He was still winning. As the country erupted into outrage that he was given a free walk for a murder, he sat pretty, thinking that he was going to ride out the storm and get away with it all, and becoming a celebrity as well, reading the constant stroking by the Outhousers and those like them (and strange bedfellows like Jeralyn Merritt and Alan Dershowitz and at times Jonathan Turley too). He felt good; he could still smirk; he was on top of his game; he was getting his whole family lined up in his defense and he could feel the groundswell of indignant “reverse racism” support building up around him and, of course, he had Shellie (still not indicted herself) and the Ostermans and Oliver and Taaffe feeding him all that gooey shmooey adoration.
This all tumbled around him in pieces as he and his wife and advisors and ill-advisors dug his hole deeper and deeper, as his first two attorneys ran like rats from the sinking ship, as he was identified as a “real suspicious potted palm,” as Shellie got her own rear-end into a wringer, as one attack after another on Trayvon turned out to be fraudulent, and as Judge Nelson came in and took the reigns and reality began to emerge inexorably.
That is when, in my opinion, the regression back to “Mommy gimme something good so I don’t feel so bad right now” happened. Fogen doesn’t have prescription drugs that are going to make him feel good. He needs whatever will pump more of that serotonin into his flagging mindset. He needs those fast sugars and the weighty carbs to shock his neurotransmitters into flashes of “ah ah ahhhh” instead of “uh oh” or, the ever-present and just waiting to hit: OhNoooooooooooo!
For that part of it, I feel for him a tiny bit, although I am embarrassed to admit it. I temper my desire to empathize with him by reminding myself of that terrorized scream right before the gunshot — If I can measure that scream, dilute it with time and time and time, and spread it out, it does actually equal approximately 100 years of real dread, real deep panicky anxiety, real OhNoooooooooooo! — so I am saying to myself, “Perhaps the universe again seeks its balance as Fogen begins to learn how to feel what he inflicted upon…” Well, perhaps.
I found some rather interesting quotes here from one of the Martin’s attorneys, who seems like a pretty good lawyer… and has a pretty good and fair attitude towards MOM and the case.

When people are ignorant of courts and the law, and unwilling to learn, or reject the knowledge of those with experience because they don’t like them, it’s very frustrating to them to see their imaginations ruined by reality.
The treeslum hates Leatherman. The treeslum hates anyone who grasps understanding of the procedures in GZ’s case and the law. They mock knowledge and experience to their own embarrassment because thus far, we have been right, and they have been wrong.
The last hearing in GZ’s case didn’t go well for the defense. Judge Nelson refused to give West plantation authority over attorney Crump. Along with that ShelLIE got bad news too. NBC has requested that the court delay proceedings. AIS is still on the burner with a good complaint to get the money owed to them.
The latest news is that the federal government has told O’Mara in certain words to go suck a rotten egg. Zidiots assumed that just because O’Mara exchanged a subpoena duces tecum for an order of the court, that the feds would have to bow to his demands. WRONG! All along I’ve said that a state court lacks jurisdiction to order the federal government to do anything. When a court lacks jurisdiction, the order is void.
Funny thing about the feds — they will help O’Mara fill out the proper forms, but they won’t tell him that his request will be denied anyway because there is an ongoing investigation. However, I think O’Mara knows that and thus, why he didn’t accept the fed’s help with the proper forms.
So now, in their frustration, Zidiots have once again pulled the race card because GZ IS NOT going to know what the feds have on him until the feds are good and ready to let him know.

Several months ago, LLMPapa posted a challenge along the lines that if Zidiots produced a video proving that Trayvon was straddle GZ and able to see the gun, and GZ was able to pull his gun from the holster and fire as he said, that he would take down all his videos about the case.

I do not think they realize that they base their agenda on the 8 minutes of stalking and instigating and threatening of Trayvon Martin by Fogenhats, and the only evidence of Fogenhats’ claims are his own testimony, so if Fogenhats does not testify, he can’t even claim self defense
I think they also fail to realize that an impartial jury will weigh it and also look at Trayvon Martin with the same rights and look at the whole picture to see who is it fault
The answer is fairly simple and the fact remains that if Fogenhats did not target, stalk, and pursue Trayvon with intent to do him harm, none of what transpired, would have transpired
IMO, the struggle began when Fogenhats began his stalking and watching of Trayvon in his car, and was creeping on Trayvon
The stalking from Fogenhats’ car by Fogenhats at night time in the dark would have anyone have concerns for their safety, so that caused Trayvon to try to escape and get away from such a person, ie the creepy man in the car
Fogenhats took it a step further and chased the kid with a gun and a flashlight on foot afterwards
Only in their world does Trayvon have no rights and can not even defend himself from some crazy stranger named Fogenhats, who continually stalked and pursued him with a gun
But in the end, the kid did not even touch Fogenhats at all and W8’s testimony that Trayvon was not the type to fight was correct

They got the full tapes from the show, I believe; the FULL tapes not just what was aired. So they’d have the cutting room floor stuff, too, though I don’t know if they can use that in the end, as it wasn’t made public.

They do not need to ask Hannity any questions, unless they want to ask a question to get an answer they know about, but was not recorded. I doubt they have that type of information because I do not believe Hannity would have volunteered it.
They just need to authenticate the recording and play it. Anyone connected with the interview and recording process can do that.
What would Hannity have to add unless they knew that he heard GZ say something off the air, but then Hannity would probably not remember it, if only keep from getting involved in the case. So, even if Hannity had heard or witnessed something, it would probably be an exercise in futility to question him about it.
The only sane thing to do is review what they’ve gotten on film, since the film is veritical unless it can be proven to be altered.

Why compel when you can simply ask? Remember, the courts jurisdiction only extends to the states borders. However, compliance comes where ever you’re able to find it. I don’t see a reason why Hannity would withhold evidence from a court, that bore no relation to directly involving him or his company in litigation.
MOM is only concerned about grandstanding, not lawyering. His client is merely an excuse to get his mug in front of the cameras, his ticket to fame and fortune.

Thanks, Aussie. Nice they got the complete unedited tape. The tape can be used for impeachment purposes and/or to collaborate other evidence/testimony. Whatever proceedeth out of GZ’s mouth is (potential) evidence – regardless of whether or not it was made public (unless he made it under duress or in a place he has reasonable expectation of privacy and there was no warrant to breach that privacy).
The ‘show’ was taped, the background added for each view in post-production, then aired, not saying it was edited after it was aired.
Check out ‘chroma key’ or ‘green screen’ (or blue screen) for some basic info.
Still learning here, to figure what they did to produce what they wanted us to see and how we should see it and hear it.
That stuff is fascinating, back in the 80’s we converted a lot of our cab fleet to “Dual Fuel. gas & propane. We had a contract transporting several of the TV news / weather people to work and one took interest in this. They sent a crew over to film this over the course of 3 days. The owner of the co. who was oh……”dwarfing of the Fogen girth” was told he shouldn’t be the narrator and since I knew everything about the conversion and the technicalities. I was elected. In all of the shots in the shop, which I kept clean as a whistle, they had a long blue “tarp” behind me. When the show aired there were all sorts of cars and equipment that we did not have. They turned a 1500 sq ft shop into about 20,000 sq foot.
If only I had 1 more good mechanic…..

There are several backgrounds used in the Hannity interview. The scene is not in a three dimensional room, it’s a fabrication of editing. Some of the object placements do not make sense in relation from one view to another, but they are there to provide consistency and ‘believability, but not so convincing when you watch for them and are not distracted by the interview.

The balance comes in the mind and the heart, being able to hear the evidence and testimony, apply the facts to the law by abiding by jury instructions. GZ and O’Mara are trying to deflect because GZ is not being tried for racial profiling, neither a racial hate-crime.
The jury won’t hear a word about GZ’s racism. That is for the federal government to decide.
I am confident that BDLR will do everything possible to disqualify people who are racially prejudiced from sitting on the jury.
IMO, all the State has to do is include a charge of discharging a fire arm — the charge against Alexander. Even racially bigoted Whites would not want GZ casing their neighborhood with a loaded weapon because his neighbors who witnessed and called 911, with the exception of Jon, are all White. A bullet knows no race and has no particular name on it. The bullet fired by GZ could have killed one of his neighbors while they watched television.
And of course, since GZ said that he didn’t know whether or not he actually shot Trayvon, there is good reason for the State to include that charge.

Demanding an all-White jury is among the ultimate acts of desperation. And when GZ gets convicted by all-White jury, the gangsters at the cth will claim that those jurors were all threatened and intimidated by the NBP and are afraid of riots. I have nothing against an all-White jury – AS LONG AS the Professor, PiranhaMom, Racerrodig, Crane, Malisha and Rachel ARE THE JURORS!

I can find sources saying that the demographics* of the area (vast majority white) may result in an all-white jury, but no mention of the defense itself, “demanding” an all-white jury.

Still, the State should add that charge. GZ still discharged a firearm in a residential area.
Racerrodig, I rarely feel the need to disagree with you but I actually checked the census records for Seminole County, Florida. The number of grossly overweight, racist, gun loving, unemployed, total losers with extremely dysfunctional families who are Afro–Peruvian with subscriptions to the Soldier of Fortune, Racists-R-Us that are members of the NRA was 4,771 in 2012 but only three of them were taxpayers. I guess the other 4,769 of them figured into the 47% of Americans who sponged off our country’s real hard-working decent American patriots.

You asked about the video editing of the Hannity show. I’m doing research. Did collect several screen grabs ages ago and noticed a couple things about lighting and distortion, and appearing and disappearing objects. But didn’t know why, what the use was.
That ‘hotel’ scene, I now have a theory, solid one I’m sure, of why it appears in the colours it does– notice any missing colour? It’s called ‘green’! As in ‘green screen’. What you bet they were never in a room that looked like that.
I also think that O’Mara isn’t in the picture throughout, it was not a couchside chat of all three buddies in front of Hannity in the blue and orange room.
We never see O’Mara and Hannity together, we never see the fogen and Hannity together, and we (I suspect) only saw O’Mara and fogen together for a limited time, then O’Mara turns ‘small headed’ with exaggerated perspective.
There’s another clue in lighting, watch for the fogen’s right shoulder where it becomes fuzzy– soft edges, and lighting isn’t right for the direction of light in the scene. That may be because it’s picked up some green (and they have to colour key the foreground figures to match the background), or maybe just enhanced for some other reason, maybe the edge is too hard to match the background behind him.

I believe Fogen killed Trayvon Martin BECAUSE his own life was out of control. He had a long history of trying to exert control over others whenever he felt impotent: beating the ex-girlfriend, attacking an ATF officer, chasing a driver he thought dissed him, involving himself in all kinds of tattling and juvenile misbehavior at jobs, violence at parties where he was supposed to be an officer of the peace. The guy could not get himself into control of any part of his life; heck, he couldn’t pay his own rent and didn’t own his own car.
He needed to go out and exert control over somebody else. In old times, he might have been “lucky” enough to own someone he could abuse to make himself feel better about his sorry lot. But in 2012, his calculations were all off and his moment had long since gone. When, at first, SPD tried to turn back the clock and give him a “walk” on the killing of an innocent kid he then slandered, he might have felt momentarily better, but when the real law came knocking, all his control issues piled back onto him and look what we have now.
Fox News is something else CNN is also at first I use to follow CNN with this case they are just as bias as Fox in a sense. But O’Mara might as well quit while he’s ahead because he simply has nothing to win this case and if he does win it’s only because he poison the jury!!!!!

Some people use a laptop and desktop, and the IP addresses are different. IMPORTANT NOTE: Each computer has its own IP address. That also includes phones with internet access.
If the IP address first used that has your subsequent comments posted without going into moderation changes, then the comments will go into moderation. In other words, the Professor is not allowing some of your comments to be posted and not others because all or nothing would go into moderation. It’s the Word Press program that’s doing it.

I disagree that fogen is gaining weight on purpose. In our culture, fat is shameful, not sympathetic. I believe his weight gain is a simple reflection of his inability to deal with the consequences of being publically recognized as a cold-blooded loser of a murderer.

My impression exactly. Gladys is not a helpless shrinking violet “terrified and controlled.” She is a self-righteous idiot who raised self-righteous idiots, GZ and RZJ.
I don’t think it matters if Gladys is: (1) terrified and controlled but a shrinking violet and being fooled about the case because her family and/or doctors won’t let her read anything; or (2) a vicious abusive tyrant who made Fogen what he is and who is now callously baiting a dead child’s parents by ignorantly and cruelly referring to their child as a savage; or (3) whatever. I don’t think it matters what she thinks about the case, either. I don’t think it matters what she says to the media, about the media, about the President, or about anything else. She is no authority on anything. She is no expert; she is no moral compass; she is nobody I would ever seek to learn from or listen to and I don’t care what her opinion is of ANYTHING.

Regarding Gladys: I think the public perception of Gladys does matter in that anything that may get GZ sympathy via his “poor, pitiful and/or controlled” mother leads to contributions and in some respect further enables GZ to live in his fantasy world and not accept responsibility for what he did. I remember MOM used this pity ploy during one of his interviews regarding Z’s parents and grandmother with reported Alzheimer’s living in temporary housing. I don’t know MOM’s motive for mentioning this but sure but it seems like he was trying to get pity/support for GZ. As far as I am concerned the George apple did not fall far from the Glady tree regarding a sense of entitlement and superiority which may or may not have led to his profiling an “underclass” black male. Not to be argumentative but it’s just my observation of how things seem to be happening as far as public relations campaign based on pity factor for all the Z family.
All I can say is that, by the looks of things, it appears that Trayvon would have been the far better contributor to society than GZ has been able to accomplish, or probably ever would accomplish.

Look at the “friends” Fogen had…then Trayvon was a good student and the fact that Trayvon was able to get into a football huddle “for a common goal” puts him so far above Fogen’s accomplishments it’s apple ‘n oranges. Now add the fact that Trayvon saved his dad’s life by pulling him from a burning building when he was 9……Fogen would have made “get out the hot dog” joke.

So, GZ wanted to be a judge. At the age of 28 having failed 2 yr community college, he was zero percent on his way to achieving that goal.
It’s a weird thing to put on a resume. Matter of fact, if we all just put what we wanted to be, on our resume, I’d have about five or six degrees, invented things, cured things, judged things, you name it. I’d be an artist, a singer,…Yeah. I wanted to be God, but it didn’t quite work out.

One of my sons is in law school. He had a 3.4 GPA and a 151 on the LSAT. He had a hard time getting in the majority of schools and had his choices narrowed to two. I cannot imagine a man with less than a 1.8 GPA in his first several years of school and multiple bouts of academic probation (and 28) actually thinking he could make it into an accredited law school. He would have a hard time getting into a state school for an undergraduate with that.
I hate to say this, but I have seen judges who are stupider than Fogen. I hated more to realize it than to admit it, too. UGH!

I believe the last time it came up my only response was that if they couldn’t do something as simple as read an autopsy report then they had no business discussing any part of the case. Well that and fogen has enough ignorant people supporting him and if they truly believed he was innocent the least they could do was be up to date with the evidence like those of us on the other side.
Sadly, people on both ‘sides” of this case have been allowing themselves to be misled in one direction or the other by one or more of the various bits of misinformation out there.
Just a couple of days ago someone was going on about Trayvon’s body lying unidentified in the morgue for 3 days.

@aY2z, I agree that America needs to see Trayvon’s deceased body also. then maybe those who seem to want to make an issue out of his image as well as his age when a certain photo was taken will shut the hell up. as we all know, they tried to pass the photo of a 33yr old man off as being that of Trayvon Martin. there is no level too low for these people to stoop to.
I don’t know that the writer was suggesting that, took it as making the point about the difference, and a reminder of who the real, the one and only victim was. America doesn’t need to see that, the jury does, and will.
I also hope the jury sees the video of Serino’s interview with fogen on the 29th, when he had to show him photos of Trayvon, and make sure he knew who he was, his name, his age, his loving parents, their tremendous grief, and the fogen’s chance he will one day, face them and face their questions.
Respect for Trayvon and the family, is why that photo has not been published.

They hope they can turn the tide and people will move on and forget. Just as they carefully attack Crump but really mean the parents. He is absolutely correct about the image of death Martin. But just like the parents I would resist publication, it’s the most basic service to dead Trayvon. The attorney’s for Trayvon Martin’s family is cover for the Trayvon Martin family, but they realize if they said it, it would backfire.
It’s simply desperation. I get the sense that their deepest fear is not so much that they feel their son is innocent, but that they feel this reflects badly on the entire family. In other words, they’re more concerned with appearances than with how their son is affected, let alone how the Martin family’s son was affected. The have a deep need to be seen as good parents, therefore they attack Trayvon’s family. This is reflected also in the Treeper’s behavior.

I think the statement that neither one can hold down a job is simply ludicrous. While it is true that George might be limited to temp labor jobs (btw–think he might have been able to draw unemployment from his most recent employment?), Shellie should be just as well-qualified to sell her Avon (or whatever) products as she ever was, as a trained “esthetician,” even if she didn’t make it through the final four weeks to qualify as bedpan carrier. Around here, home health aids (the sort of work she most likely qualifies for) are one of the more available openeings. I can only imagine that it is even more so down in Fla.

It doesn’t matter whether the dispatcher had actual authority to order the defendant to stop following Trayvon.
The relevant question is what was the defendant’s intent. The jury will be instructed to look at his conduct to determine his intent. His refusal to comply with the dispatcher’s instruction, together with other evidence such as the defendant telling the dispatcher to tell the officer en route to call the defendant on his cell phone when he arrived in the neighborhood, constitutes powerful circumstantial evidence that the defendant intended to hunt, find and detain Trayvon to prevent him from getting away.
If the dispatcher had said “We don’t need for you to follow him” or “We don’t need you to get out and follow him on foot” and then George had gotten out and “just happened to be walking in the same direction recently taken by Trayvon”, that makes it a lot harder to say “I wasn’t doing anything wrong” than does “When he said they didn’t need me to follow, I disengaged and went off to RVC to find an address”.
Without a witness to contradict the latter, that gives him some wiggle room that getting out of the truck AFTER being told not to would not give him.

According to the NW rules, GZ was not supposed to be pursuing a “suspicious” person, regardless of whether or not a police dispatcher had told him not to.
Never mind when the trained Neighborhood Watch guy heard Sean tell him, he knew he was required to stay put. He knew he was required to NOT carry a firearm. And he WROTE IT HIMSELF IN HIS VOLUNTARY STATEMENT, that the dispatcher told him not to follow.

Fact is: By now I am slightly allergic to the argument about Sean’s authority or missing authority. I do not like the spirit behind it. I would like to decide myself, when to obey “authority” and when not, at least to the extend I legally can, equally I may well like to decide myself, when I should better listen to someone maybe even lower on hierarchical layers than myself and when not.
In the given scenario Fogen clearly understands what the dispatcher/Sean means and responds accordingly. (to leave aside the multitude of complication arising in the authority/non-authority debate, e.g. if Sean dispatches at all)
Remember that Singleton refers to this aspect during her questioning of George that he is not meant to follow? Surely there may be a gray area between watching/observing/following or they may and do merge in Fogen’s case. … Nevertheless there are NW rules. In other words there is a difference between observing and reporting and hunting. Just as usually observing does not result in a dead “suspect”.

I had the same thought about the FBI files. What has already been released is sufficient for their purposes–making him look good. Digging around into their ongoing investigation into whether Trayvon was murdered because he was black is likely to open a hornet’s nest that cannot help them.
Actually, this is the fourth judge, the first one removed himself right away because MOM is the godfather of one of his kids.

But yes, since I am rarely in a light mood, I hesitate about our abilities to grasp “the absent evidence”, or the FBI’s ability for that matter in Fogen’s case. See his ex-girl friend’s difficulties in grasping it.

The absence of evidence is no evidence of absence, somehow comes to mind, no idea from what synopses exactly. Closely following you cannot proof a negative, that was the first that surfaced, so that may have helped to create the larger ability to store it.
Now do I know what the first means, yes, but do I completely grasp the second (actually the first on my mind) as easily as a lawyer could make it visible in examples, I somehow doubt.

When you “started to follow him because he thought he looked suspicious” (Trayvon), you were my greatest nightmare to a mother of a teenager who “looks black.” When you shot him, it was my nightmare come true.
I would think at least now you have an idea how it feels and maybe some understanding about how black teen males feel and how their moms feel about them just even walking in public.
But somehow, from the victimization expressed in this story, I don’t think you get it at all. It has not given you more empathy or insight. And I can’t say that after what you have done I feel any safer any time my son goes out without his wife and kids. Maybe they are safer from you (or your kind) because the wife and kids are white – or maybe that makes it even worse, I don’t know. You have shown me a part of life and people under rocks I did not know existed.

Plus, according to my math and calculations, he would have been better off mentally and physically, plus he’d be able to finance a defense, if he’d stayed in jail. He is really, I think the only person I have ever seen, who was actually likely better off to stay in jail, while awaiting trial. This is not easy for anyone to hear, but this man has not done himself any favors at all. Hell, at this rate, the both of them should have parked in jail and shut their mouths.
Too bad fogen didn’t have parents who had to give him “the talk” I’ve heard that black parents have to give to their children, to be aware of their surroundings and actions when out in public so as not to be profiled. Yup. I think the world is wrong when any parent has to give any talk like this, but it is the reality, and that is sad.
Tower – I only got a variance of “the talk” when my mother thought I might be a lesbian. And it was mostly along the lines of “I don’t care, but others will. You’re black and a woman, that’s two strikes against you in some people’s eyes. You’re insanely intelligent, which will make it worse.” Both my folks are from the south(1930’s and 1950’s) but I was born and raised in vegas. They did their best to not pass on any anger built up from what they both went through in the past.
I didn’t really know how to bring this up, but I was raised in the Pacific Northwest, and we simply were not…exposed, I guess is the word, to this hate. Man, I learned a whole different deal moving to Kentucky, and some folks don’t even consider this to be South, although this area tends to self-identify as South.
Then, along comes this awful case, from Florida. I have never seen hate like this before in my life. People not even being shy about it, just owning that hate, loud and proud. I never imagined it could be this way.
Crane same here. In truth the worst things ever said to me came from other blacks. I acted white. I talked funny etc. One long convo with my mother later and I realized that I shouldn’t let people who are frightened by my differences or simply jealous because I was doing better, be they classmates or family stop me from being who I am and doing whats right. Heck even going down to Arkansas for family reunions was never too shabby, admittedly though we spent the whole week in Magnolia sitting around eating, hanging out and going to church.
I’ve got too much backbone from dealing with fools in my own community to deal with it from others. So gods help whomever I may run into one day who flashes their bigot card at me or my son.
You’ve also got too much writing talent to let that slip past. You mention backbone, that’ll keep you safe from attack, I think. I have noticed that some people are able to put their racist bigotry on the downlow, when encountering a smart woman with backbone. The ones who don’t are on their own.Just something I have observed among women, not really sure if I made sense.

You know, that was one of the saddest and scariest first reactions to this case. I know about the talk and I’ve had occasion to give the talk. One of the things that Obama brought to us, recalling his talk on race following the Reverend Wright revelations, was the hope that a generation might have arrived that was able to transcend the need and consciousness behind that talk.The crashing realization was that even the talk (always about watch how you act because people will be watching and judging you) was insufficient. It was such a complete and total throwback to days when simply being black and in the wrong place was enough.
I like that. I am sad to have lost an article by a black female journalist, I think at least she was. I wish I would have saved the link or would remember her name.
The author talked about her own experiences with prejudice. There were a couple of stories that made it really vivid to grasp.
One was about her, one about her son, the rest I do not remember. The story about her was about burglaries or shoplifting, which I realized during my times as a student working in a special project, but just well from witnessing the huge store of records or books in the flat of co-students working in either bookshops or record shops, it is in fact often done not by customers but by employees. … In any case it happened when she worked while studying in a shop. She was immediately singled out as the prime suspect. She was the only black employee in the shop. Accident?
The much more interesting story, at least to me, concerned her son. He happened to be a very good student in mathematics. I loved mathematics too, and had very, very good teachers expect one lady, ironically. Maybe a fast route education post WWII, with quite a bit of necessary cleaning. Fogen’s dramatic weight gain — deliberate or not — must be creating monitoring device difficulty, what with likelihood of swollen ankles. Are these devices easily adjustable, and do they come in XXX-large?
Also wonder if Fogen and the missus bought health insurance with any of the OPM defense funding. If not, a hospital emergency run for a simple gastro-related ailment could end up costing a few thousand bucks, between the ambulance ride and routine testing/treatment.
MOM already is beginning to publicly moan about Fogen’s stress and depression.
Don’t know whether Judge Nelson has legal standing to do so, but if MOM keeps verbally heading down the physical and mental illness trail in open court, I’d like to see her revoke Fogen’s bail on grounds that he’s a danger to himself … if not others.
Once jailed, heart healthy meals could be delivered to the gobbler’s cell, and a cap could be put on his canteen purchases. Options for his pulling any other stunts also would be curbed, and the state would cover his medical needs.
I don’t want to see this turkey getting a continuence over health issues … especially those of his own making .
They have managed to dump, what looks like a medical emergency onto the passing public, and we are not the ones who can help. Well, he does appear to have an eating disorder, along with his other obsessions. Recall he lost weight before the arrest and now has ballooned. He really does not seem to be a mentally healthy person. Let’s face it too — those letters could be coming from GZ supporters as part of their propaganda scheme. GZ might be writing some himself.

Can’t see how it would be pertinent. Most of the stuff that O’Mara is spreading around right now isn’t pertinent and he knows he cannot bring it into court. Hence, at every turn he will put it out in the public eye, hoping to influence jurors.
We already know there are no credible threats simply from the fact AIS felt that all the bells and whistles were not needed to what Fogen. So me a death threat sent in person or left at his hiding spot(former or current) and then I might believe him.
