last night to remember Trayvon and to support the cause of justice for Trayvon.
Yesterday certainly was full of emotion, that’s for sure and carries into today. The kids had a an important rehearsal because they are auditioning a singer, bass player and keyboard / vocalist tomorrow that are supposed very good so they want to impress. My wife balled a pillow up in her lap and watched the memorials on TV and began crying.
What did Fogen have for support…..racist rants and a few hillbillies out there chanting “Stand Your Ground….Stand Your Ground !!”
But half of them had to stop after a minute to close the little roof vents on their houses when it started raining.

Exactly. It has virtually nothing to do with guilt. You cannot be guilty for unconsciously accepting and benefitting from that which you did not ask for nor seek to use against others. It is simply a matter of awareness in the pursuit of equity.
The piece of this that is, to my way of thinking, the most peculiar, is the willingness on the part of Jeralyn Merritt, Alan Dershowitz, even Jonathan Turley, to give credence to a nonsensical story — essentially, a tale told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, signifying nothing. Remember Serino asking Fogen: “What would make him suddenly go off like that — other than the fact that he felt you were profiling him — that’s what we have to deal with.” Fogen’s little tiny voice, “I don’t know.”
People who are willing to believe that Trayvon suddenly, and without any provocation, attacked Fogen and savagely beat him, can only be concluding that ridiculous deduction [from no logical facts, of course] because they profile Trayvon Martin as a violent criminal. Only by PRESUMING that Trayvon Martin was a violent criminal type BY NATURE can they logically accept Fogen’s story. If Trayvon Martin was a normal kid walking through the neighborhood in a perfectly non-threatening and acceptable manner, Fogen’s story does not work.
So people who subscribe to Fogen’s story do so because they are profiling Trayvon Martin. Period.
And they are being lead to this under their leadership that is LYING as it, over and over again, makes up unfounded descriptions that falsely portray Trayvon as being a thug.
For anyone to believe Fogen’s story about what Trayvon did to him, that person has to believe, as did Fogen, that Trayvon Martin was just a criminal type, “up to no good.” Serino asks Fogen why he thinks Trayvon would have become so enraged, “other than he thought you were profiling him?” Fogen says in his tiniest little voice, “I don’t know.” Yet on Hannity, Fogen rules out fear as a motivation for Trayvon — after all, Fogen has a right to determine not only what motivates HIM [only good and honorable motivations] but what motivates the people he targets as assholes and punks. He’s superior, so he can attribute to them all the motivations that are needed to explain their bad behavior, see?
So to Fogen, Trayvon started out “real suspicious” and “up to no good” and then his conduct, in making an unprovoked thug attack on a nice guy simply looking for an address and beating him savagely, proved Fogen’s initial “educated guess” about Trayvon’s evil ways. It works for Fogen; it works for Jeralyn Merritt and for Alan Dershowitz and to some extent for Jonathan Turley. They don’t even realize that in adopting that ridiculous conclusion they are profiling Trayvon Martin as a Black criminal type, given to violence and acting out of “Black rage” and unwarranted hostility.
When Serino asked Fogen to comment on Trayvon’s motive, Fogen came in with his little tiny lie voice: “I don’t know.” But when Hannity suggested that perhaps Trayvon acted out of fear, Fogen assumed his position as the superior and not only laid down the blameless motivations HE HAD when he followed “the suspect,” he also ruled out fear as a motivation for Trayvon Martin. My my my, how convenient! Fogen knew what was in Trayvon’s mind that caused Trayvon to attack and savagely beat him, and it was “not from fear.” Then what? From wickedness, of course! From being a Black criminal, naturally! From being, essentially, a “savage” who does not need a motive to do bad things. From being someone who was “up to no good.”
People who believe Fogen’s illogical and inappropriate story believe it because it strokes their prejudices. Even the intelligent ones among them. What a shame!

I taught Spanish and ESOL in high school for 11 years. I think about my eleventh graders on the college track. That is how I see Trayvon Martin, like an eleventh grader sitting in my Spanish II class. It’s painful, and this anniversary is a poignant reminder.
The reaction by the bigots to the vigil has been to renew the same tired arguments in post after post. I read two or three of them and have to stop. It’s hard to stomach the unmitigated gall of some posters purporting that the “facts” show this, or the “evidence” absolutely proves that without so much as a cursory showing of it.
GZ, like an single-minded animal, went into predator mode spurred on and emboldened by the secure knowledge that he was packing a gun. Judge, jury and executioner.
I believed this instinctively months ago just reading the news, but now after following this blog I have learned so much.

My son popped back in last night and composed a poem and a sign off letter. That can be added / melded to the song and has a natural redirection to it. I try to let them do it on their own with minimal help and I believe they will have it down soon.

Thankfully, that is true. By the time my elderly mother mailed me the news clip about the murder of a boy carrying candy and iced tea, I had already signed the petition. My nephew was murdered (shot in the heart) when he was 16 and the motive was never known, nor was the killer ever caught. Our lives changed forever that day, and my heart aches for Trayvon’s family because this is something that no one can ever ‘get over.’ We feel very strongly that if there is anything we can do, even if it’s raising awareness or giving a voice, we’ll do it, and it is amazing to see people who have never met, coming together with so much passion and caring.
Oh, Crane, I am reaching out to you with a loving hug…..how very sad…..Your nephew was almost Trayvon’s age. Tears don’t go away…..they collect in a pool or memories and reflection.

Just about every day I think of something in the case, and get the “oh oh wait a minute, hold on!” feeling and half the time I can’t get to write it down right then and it evaporates before I can memorialize it. This has been the year. This has been the year since I first heard the name Trayvon Martin and said, “How do you spell that?” Just today I was reading about Alan Dershowitz’s comments on the Oscar Pistorius case in South Africa. It seems that Pistorius’s girlfriend, who was with him at his house on Valentine’s Day, got shot four times and bludgeoned with a heavy blunt object. Pistorius, who admits that he did shoot her (but does not admit that he bludgeoned her) claims that he did so by mistake because he heard noises in the bathroom and thought it was a home invader. Pistorius’s father has apparently given a statement to the press to the effect that “if you hear noises in your house, you will naturally think it is an intruder.” He discounts the idea that you might first CHECK to see if it is perhaps your live-in girlfriend.
Dershowitz commented on the case to say that Pistorius’s interest in getting out of prison on bail awaiting trial was a bad idea for the defense to promote, because it caused him, the defendant, to put in an affidavit what HIS defense story was. Dershowitz points out that it is better for the defendant to wait and see what the forensic evidence shows, rather than starting to give stories, because they can backfire if the physical evidence does not support that story.
Interestingly (remember, the woman killed was a very pretty blond model) Dershowitz was not infuriated at the South African prosecutor for charging the man with first degree murder, even though Pistorius insisted that the killing was NOT premeditated and that he didn’t know whom he was shooting. Dershowitz is not outraged at the defendant being “overcharged.” HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! I guess when you kill a pretty blond model, and you’re a celebrity, your word is NOT as good as law, whereas when you kill a “John Doe suspect who then becomes Trayvon Benjamin Martin,” and you are an Afro-Peruvian of the American race, your word IS as good as law and should be believed.
Dersh, get a life. Or stifle it.
Oh guess what the explanation was in Pistorius’s affidavit, about why there was a bloody baseball bat on the crime scene? He shot the “intruder” four times and then went back to the bedroom; whereupon he realized that his girlfriend was not in bed where he THOUGHT she was when he arose and armed himself. THEN he thought, “uh oh maybe I shot her in the bathroom” and he used the baseball bat to break down the door of the bathroom, and when he saw her bloody body, he carried it “down” to try to revive her.

I can see, the difference between moral and legal responsibility. The problem I see, Dershowitz ignores is: what are the consequences? Should we give up justice to some superior forces altogether? What do we need secular law for then?
If you combine that with the above statement about remaining silent till you know what prosecution knows and can proof, were does that leave us, especially in murder cases?
Besides were does it leave every single one of us, if we confront a paranoid mind while obviously never quite aware what is on that person’s mind. In other words: What is the correct way to act?
Returning to the South African case, maybe it is not necessary to add the bludgeoning, if you concentrate on four shots. Doesn’t that already suggest some type of acting on impulse? Difficult to say, but no doubt the first thing on your mind if you hear noises in the night, if you life with someone may not be not a burglar, you probably first check if it couldn’t be them causing the noises. For the very simple reason, if it is a burglar s/he may be threatened too. What does it signify if this natural response is missing?
I have one experience and one memory concerning the last two paragraphs. First: the right way to act. I can assure you there is no given way to respond correctly, and your mind works very swiftly in such a situation. If you have ever faced such a scenario you will realize that Trayvon’s age may well have mattered. In my case a quote by Dostoevsky helped me to get out and survive.
Concerning the type of acting on impulse, I have vague memories too, or the realization how verbal struggles can escalate to a point that leaves one dead. Reading Malisha’s contribution another memory surfaces, the scenarios someone I once met, a member of the German secret services, once elaborated on for “my pleasure”. Scenarios about the killing of wives, I do not forget if it was his own specifically, surfaced quite prominently among the stories he offered.
Thus without going into details that may well be based on rumors, it feels Malisha’s response may well catch aspects in spite of the fact, I would be more careful with details surfacing early.
The basic question that it left me with is, to what extend the legal profession may occasionally be in a conflict between the wish to succeed and ethics or morals. Unfortunately Malisha did not give us a link. So I have to trust her concerning the statement, that struck me.
Fact is the Trayvon Martin case confronts me with something beyond the limits of innocent until proven guilty, and that is his basic prejudice which triggered events is very hard to ignore for me. And makes this case very, very special for me. It is also what Dershowitz wants to keep out, interestingly.

I basically agree with him concerning the tendency to overcharge. I think prison is a very bad place to improve people’s ethics or morality. I am very, very suspicious of tendencies in the field especially of juvenile delinquency in the US, at least as far as I know about them.

Did you know that the Trayvon Martin story got more news in 2012 then even Obama’s election? There is no way this could have happened without a deeply human story finding the media, as the article O’Mara links to on Crump and Park’s page puts it.

If I had been able to get to know you, I think we would have been friends, maybe our girlfriends would have been friends, I think we would jump in the swimming pool at the same time

My son was able to sneak back out to the shop he composed that poem and letter while I was back in the house…….he was moved deeply by this as were his friends……I’d put them up against any Zidiot youth, and day.

We are all in this together. When we talk about these things they ask a lot of questions. Some cannot really be answered.
They are all 14 and the biggest question is “Why” That’s a pretty hard one but they seem to undersand when I teach them how to be colorblind. If they rise above what XXXXX represents, that alone made my life productive.

It never ceases to amaze me what peaceful, together people they are. I would bet money that O’Mara and West won’t be able to rattle or rile them AT ALL, no matter how hard they try. last night to remember Trayvon and to support the cause of justice for Trayvon.
Yesterday certainly was full of emotion, that’s for sure and carries into today. The kids had a an important rehearsal because they are auditioning a singer, bass player and keyboard / vocalist tomorrow that are supposed very good so they want to impress. My wife balled a pillow up in her lap and watched the memorials on TV and began crying.
What did Fogen have for support…..racist rants and a few hillbillies out there chanting “Stand Your Ground….Stand Your Ground !!”
But half of them had to stop after a minute to close the little roof vents on their houses when it started raining.

So people who subscribe to Fogen’s story do so because they are profiling Trayvon Martin. Period.

For anyone to believe Fogen’s story about what Trayvon did to him, that person has to believe, as did Fogen, that Trayvon Martin was just a criminal type, “up to no good.” Serino asks Fogen why he thinks Trayvon would have become so enraged, “other than he thought you were profiling him?” Fogen says in his tiniest little voice, “I don’t know.” Yet on Hannity, Fogen rules out fear as a motivation for Trayvon — after all, Fogen has a right to determine not only what motivates HIM [only good and honorable motivations] but what motivates the people he targets as assholes and punks. He’s superior, so he can attribute to them all the motivations that are needed to explain their bad behavior, see?
So to Fogen, Trayvon started out “real suspicious” and “up to no good” and then his conduct, in making an unprovoked thug attack on a nice guy simply looking for an address and beating him savagely, proved Fogen’s initial “educated guess” about Trayvon’s evil ways. It works for Fogen; it works for Jeralyn Merritt and for Alan Dershowitz and to some extent for Jonathan Turley. They don’t even realize that in adopting that ridiculous conclusion they are profiling Trayvon Martin as a Black criminal type, given to violence and acting out of “Black rage” and unwarranted hostility.
When Serino asked Fogen to comment on Trayvon’s motive, Fogen came in with his little tiny lie voice: “I don’t know.” But when Hannity suggested that perhaps Trayvon acted out of fear, Fogen assumed his position as the superior and not only laid down the blameless motivations HE HAD when he followed “the suspect,” he also ruled out fear as a motivation for Trayvon Martin. My my my, how convenient! Fogen knew what was in Trayvon’s mind that caused Trayvon to attack and savagely beat him, and it was “not from fear.” Then what? From wickedness, of course! From being a Black criminal, naturally! From being, essentially, a “savage” who does not need a motive to do bad things. From being someone who was “up to no good.”
People who believe Fogen’s illogical and inappropriate story believe it because it strokes their prejudices. Even the intelligent ones among them. What a shame!

I taught Spanish and ESOL in high school for 11 years. I think about my eleventh graders on the college track. That is how I see Trayvon Martin, like an eleventh grader sitting in my Spanish II class. It’s painful, and this anniversary is a poignant reminder.
The reaction by the bigots to the vigil has been to renew the same tired arguments in post after post. I read two or three of them and have to stop. It’s hard to stomach the unmitigated gall of some posters purporting that the “facts” show this, or the “evidence” absolutely proves that without so much as a cursory showing of it.
GZ, like an single-minded animal, went into predator mode spurred on and emboldened by the secure knowledge that he was packing a gun. Judge, jury and executioner.

My dad says we need to watch out for each other and until I read about you I really didn’t understand. Dad taught me to be color blind with everyone and now I can tell what he means. Thankfully, that is true. By the time my elderly mother mailed me the news clip about the murder of a boy carrying candy and iced tea, I had already signed the petition. My nephew was murdered (shot in the heart) when he was 16 and the motive was never known, nor was the killer ever caught. Our lives changed forever that day, and my heart aches for Trayvon’s family because this is something that no one can ever ‘get over.’ We feel very strongly that if there is anything we can do, even if it’s raising awareness or giving a voice, we’ll do it, and it is amazing to see people who have never met, coming together with so much passion and caring.

I can’t quite figure out what I’m feeling when my thoughts turn to Trayvon and his family. It’s anger. It’s regret. It’s a lot of sadness.
It’s the feeling that if his mother could stretch her arm out far enough, she could grab hold of his hand and pull him back into the land of the living…. It almost seems possible.
I hear ya….My son is having a “guilt attack” of sorts. His thinking is if he’d had my son and his gang as friends, he wouldn’t have been alone.

There are many African American teens that walk home from school and head home to the apartments where I work. I try speak to them and ask how they are. I know that young African American males are in serious danger. I just try to let them know this old,fat white lady hopes the best for them and would assist if asked. This one reminds me of Trayvon. If he had had the chance…
Just about every day I think of something in the case, and get the “oh oh wait a minute, hold on!” feeling and half the time I can’t get to write it down right then and it evaporates before I can memorialize it. This has been the year. This has been the year since I first heard the name Trayvon Martin and said, “How do you spell that?” Just today I was reading about Alan Dershowitz’s comments on the Oscar Pistorius case in South Africa. It seems that Pistorius’s girlfriend, who was with him at his house on Valentine’s Day, got shot four times and bludgeoned with a heavy blunt object. Pistorius, who admits that he did shoot her (but does not admit that he bludgeoned her) claims that he did so by mistake because he heard noises in the bathroom and thought it was a home invader. Pistorius’s father has apparently given a statement to the press to the effect that “if you hear noises in your house, you will naturally think it is an intruder.” He discounts the idea that you might first CHECK to see if it is perhaps your live-in girlfriend.
Dershowitz commented on the case to say that Pistorius’s interest in getting out of prison on bail awaiting trial was a bad idea for the defense to promote, because it caused him, the defendant, to put in an affidavit what HIS defense story was. Dershowitz points out that it is better for the defendant to wait and see what the forensic evidence shows, rather than starting to give stories, because they can backfire if the physical evidence does not support that story.
Interestingly (remember, the woman killed was a very pretty blond model) Dershowitz was not infuriated at the South African prosecutor for charging the man with first degree murder, even though Pistorius insisted that the killing was NOT premeditated and that he didn’t know whom he was shooting. Dershowitz is not outraged at the defendant being “overcharged.” HA HA HA HA HA HA HA! I guess when you kill a pretty blond model, and you’re a celebrity, your word is NOT as good as law, whereas when you kill a “John Doe suspect who then becomes Trayvon Benjamin Martin,” and you are an Afro-Peruvian of the American race, your word IS as good as law and should be believed.
Dersh, get a life. Or stifle it.
Oh guess what the explanation was in Pistorius’s affidavit, about why there was a bloody baseball bat on the crime scene? He shot the “intruder” four times and then went back to the bedroom; whereupon he realized that his girlfriend was not in bed where he THOUGHT she was when he arose and armed himself. THEN he thought, “uh oh maybe I shot her in the bathroom” and he used the baseball bat to break down the door of the bathroom, and when he saw her bloody body, he carried it “down” to try to revive her.
Oh yeah. That works for me, doesn’t it work for Dersh? Hey Jeralyn, doesn’t it work for you too?

I can see, the difference between moral and legal responsibility. The problem I see, Dershowitz ignores is: what are the consequences? Should we give up justice to some superior forces altogether? What do we need secular law for then?
If you combine that with the above statement about remaining silent till you know what prosecution knows and can proof, were does that leave us, especially in murder cases?
Besides were does it leave every single one of us, if we confront a paranoid mind while obviously never quite aware what is on that person’s mind. In other words: What is the correct way to act?
Returning to the South African case, maybe it is not necessary to add the bludgeoning, if you concentrate on four shots. Doesn’t that already suggest some type of acting on impulse? Difficult to say, but no doubt the first thing on your mind if you hear noises in the night, if you life with someone may not be not a burglar, you probably first check if it couldn’t be them causing the noises. For the very simple reason, if it is a burglar s/he may be threatened too. What does it signify if this natural response is missing?
I have one experience and one memory concerning the last two paragraphs. First: the right way to act. I can assure you there is no given way to respond correctly, and your mind works very swiftly in such a situation. If you have ever faced such a scenario you will realize that Trayvon’s age may well have mattered. In my case a quote by Dostoevsky helped me to get out and survive.
Concerning the type of acting on impulse, I have vague memories too, or the realization how verbal struggles can escalate to a point that leaves one dead. Reading Malisha’s contribution another memory surfaces, the scenarios someone I once met, a member of the German secret services, once elaborated on for “my pleasure”. Scenarios about the killing of wives, I do not forget if it was his own specifically, surfaced quite prominently among the stories he offered.
Thus without going into details that may well be based on rumors, it feels Malisha’s response may well catch aspects in spite of the fact, I would be more careful with details surfacing early.
The basic question that it left me with is, to what extend the legal profession may occasionally be in a conflict between the wish to succeed and ethics or morals. Unfortunately Malisha did not give us a link. So I have to trust her concerning the statement, that struck me.
Fact is the Trayvon Martin case confronts me with something beyond the limits of innocent until proven guilty, and that is his basic prejudice which triggered events is very hard to ignore for me. And makes this case very, very special for me. It is also what Dershowitz wants to keep out, interestingly.
Funny how Dersh has flipped from Fogen did nothing wrong at all to he shares some blame but is it criminal…..Kind a Flipped ‘eh Dershbag.
I’ve changed the sentence and must have deleted something that is missing now:

I have to add something concerning what Dershowitz said.
I basically agree with him concerning the tendency to overcharge. I think prison is a very bad place to improve people’s ethics or morality. I am very, very suspicious of tendencies in the field especially of juvenile delinquency in the US, at least as far as I know about them.
But I would like to comment on his curious little exit strategy, if GZ is indeed guilty he adds, I don’t remember his exact statement, he could accept that.
Now strictly, I wished Corey would have left out her statements about having prayed with the family, the moment I heard it. But in spite of that I wish her and her team the very, very best to make her case.

I’m thinking about the mixture of colours of faces in the NY gathering. And thinking of how America thinks of itself as a ‘melting pot’.’
In Canada, we do not have a ‘melting pot’, but describe our country and society as a ‘mosaic’.
The NYC Times Square gathering was so many different people of different appearance, the term ‘mosaic’ came to mind.
“Mosaic” is better. The old term “melting pot” did not allow for rejoicing in the different colors that make up America.
I like that. “Mosaic”. All distinctly indiviual, yet creating a beautiful whole. Some people have changed from the melting pot to the “stew”. The thought being, everyone brings thir own individual textures, flavors and spice, which makes one fantastic and tasty dish. I’m pretty sure whoever thought of it was hungry. 🙂

If I had been able to get to know you, I think we would have been friends, maybe our girlfriends would have been friends, I think we would jump in the swimming pool at the same time

We stopped and read what every body is saying and this is just so awesome. Dad has told us a lot about what happened and we talk about this is one of my classes and it is just so bad.
I have friends that are black, asian and spanish and we all get along. I just can’t believe what the people who think he is right say about Trayvon and call him names. We really do think about this and we could have been team mates on my baseball, football or hockey teams.

Thanks !! They are really showing a mature side on this, that’s for sure. They came out to my shop right on time and when they had their turn, emotions took over and there was not a dry eye in my shop. My wife was in the house and crying as she watched a TV program about this.
Then awhile ago my son came back out and said he wrote a poem for Trayvon and signed off with a letter of sorts. I haven’t read it yet, but this is very emotional for us.

They are writing a song called “The Image” and I posted whet is they have complete on Xena’s site yesterday. My son was able to sneak back out to the shop he composed that poem and letter while I was back in the house…….he was moved deeply by this as were his friends……I’d put them up against any Zidiot youth, and day.
I think combining parts of the song & poem would get it finished.

We are all in this together. When we talk about these things they ask a lot of questions. Some cannot really be answered.
They are all 14 and the biggest question is “Why” That’s a pretty hard one but they seem to undersand when I teach them how to be colorblind. If they rise above what XXXXX represents, that alone made my life productive.

Thank you. The words and music are so beautiful however religious or not you are… I think both would give some solace to Trayvon’s parents to see that their fight to protect others from suffering the same fate as Trayvon was so worthwhile but I so wish the CTH would see them too and realise that you cannot judge someone just by their colour because there are good and bad in every race and religion and it is the DUTY of all the good people of the world to make that known so as to become a creed for all mankind.

No, I thank you for the good work you are doing for Trayvon´s cause. Tears well up in my eyes each time I listen to any version. The melancholy, the solemnity does not fail to bring back memories of absent friends whether from yesterday or years past, regardless of their colour or religion, and hope for their everlasting remembrance and peace.
